Democrats will never be satisfied, and now the party is flip-flopping on one of their key requests for cooperating on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding – bodycams for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
After congressional Republicans gave away their leverage by agreeing to split the DHS portion out of a larger package of bills to avert a partial government shutdown, Democratic lawmakers issued an infuriating list of demands as they sought to diminish the ability of ICE to deport illegal aliens, a vital component of their political machine.
“Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) demanded in a post to X last week.
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:
End the roving patrols and racial profiling.
Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.
Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

But things have now changed amid concerns that the push for bodycams could backfire, and Schumer and company are walking it back, insisting that restrictions be placed on their use, which some fear will be used to enhance the surveillance capability of federal immigration enforcement.
According to a report from Politico, “A push to put body cameras on all ICE agents has Democrats running headlong into a new problem: fear that the technology will provide another avenue for mass surveillance of protesters.”

In a letter to GOP leaders from Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) last week, the Dems made it clear that they want the body cams but also called for “mandate requirements for the storage and access of footage. Prohibit tracking, creating, or maintaining databases of individuals participating in First Amendment activities.”
“Obviously, we want them to be wearing body cameras, but we would want restrictions placed on what that information could be used for,” said Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA). “We want to make sure that we have the accountability for how these officers conduct themselves on the streets of our country, but we don’t want it in turn to be used as a way of coming back and suppressing free speech.”
X users reacted to the sudden concern from the hypocritical, double-dealing Democrats.
Wait this illegal activity we are participating in might be on video and used against us in court? Can’t have that

No, what they fear is the world seeing how insane and violent the liberal protesters they have to deal with have gotten. It will make it harder to blame ICE agents for their bad behavior.

Translation: bodycam footage will make illegal immigrants and pro-illegal immigration protestors look bad.

They were the one’s screaming for it! The minute Trump said it was a good thing as it usually vindicates law enforcement, they pivoted on a dime. 🙄

Democrats fear normals finding out the truth about their lunatic brownshirts.

“We need accountability!”
“No, not like that”

Of course they fear that, they don’t want their countless crimes and abusive behavior to be faulty on camera

The Democrats’ climbdown on bodycams came after a letter from left-wing groups warning that the use of the technology would only be an opportunity for increased surveillance.
“Democrats in Congress can’t claim they’re standing against ICE abuses if they’re calling for more ICE-controlled cameras, which will inevitably be hooked into ICE’s facial recognition and other surveillance tools. The shift in messaging from Democratic leadership shows they are feeling the heat on this,” said Evan Greer of the left-wing nonprofit Fight for the Future in a statement to Politico.
Last week, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced that bodycams would be deployed by every officer in Minneapolis, the site of the recent deaths of two militant left-wing activists who were shot during altercations with federal immigration enforcement agents.
“As funding is available, the body camera program will be expanded nationwide. We will rapidly acquire and deploy body cameras to DHS law enforcement across the country,” Noem said.
