Media misnomers continue to the benefit of illegal aliens, as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) called out the latest example applied to an alleged machete-wielding attempted murderer.
“Yet again, legacy media has gone to bat for a vicious criminal illegal alien…”
On April 20, an alleged burglary in Green Bay, Wisconsin, sent two victims to the hospital after a man from Nicaragua was said to have attacked his ex-girlfriend and a man she was with in her home. Following the arrest of David Joel Herrera-Garcia (reported as Mairena-Garcia by ICE), corporate media once again downplayed the impact of leftist open border policies by describing the illegal alien ordered removed in 2022 as a “Green Bay man.”

“This is not a ‘Green Bay man.’ This is a criminal, illegal alien from Nicaragua who barbarically attacked two people with a machete,” asserted acting DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis in a statement released Tuesday. “Yet again, legacy media has gone to bat for a vicious criminal illegal alien allowed by the Biden administration to roam our streets and prey upon innocent people.”
The criminal complaint alleges that the illegal alien used a key to enter the home of the female victim, with whom he is said to have a child. Upon entry, he found the woman in bed with a man and “blacked out because of the rage,” recounting thinking how he was “just wanting to kill them.”
Further details from the complaint state that the man — who suffered injury to his shoulder, forearm, and shin — fled the home where the suspect was said to have beaten the woman — who suffered an injury to her head and lacerations on her hand and neck — and chased her outside before pursuing the man “down the road with the machete.”
The suspect, who was alleged to have previously made death threats to the woman in person and via text message, ultimately drove away before he was later arrested during a traffic stop. While the victims were taken to the hospital, the illegal alien was charged with two counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and armed burglary.
Police in Brown County, Wisc., arrested David Joel Mairena-Garcia, of Nicaragua, after he allegedly used a key to enter his ex-girlfriend’s home, beat her and hacked a man with a machete April 20.

Much like other examples, including the infamous “Maryland Man,” Kilmar Abrego Garcia, reporting belied the fact that the suspect should not have been present in the country to begin with.
According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), after the illegal alien received a final order of removal in 2022, having failed to show up at immigration hearings, on January 14, 2025, with less than a week remaining in President Joe Biden’s administration, Herrera-Garcia was arrested for driving without a license. At the time, ICE chose not to take the illegal alien into custody.
Bis explained, “The Biden administration marked this criminal illegal alien as a non-enforcement priority. Under President Trump’s leadership, ICE lodged an arrest detainer with our local authorities to ensure this monster is never released back into our communities.”
Cash bond was set at $750,000, and a future court appearance was scheduled for May 19.
