Don Jr. dishes on dad’s veep picks, and who’s ‘certainly a contender’

Amid stubborn rumors about Nikki Haley being a leading option as Donald Trump’s running mate, should he be the Republican nominee for president, his eldest son Don Jr. was eager to toss another name into the hat.

According to the former president’s namesake, Tucker Carlson “would certainly be a contender” as a vice presidential running mate.

Trump Jr. was asked during an appearance Thursday on Newsmax TV’s Wake Up America if his father was “serious about Tucker Carlson” joining him on the Republican ticket.

“That clearly would be on the table,” Don Jr. replied.

“I mean they’re very friendly, I think they agree on virtually all of these things,” he said. “They certainly agree on stopping the never-ending wars. And so, I would love to see that happen. That would certainly be a contender.”

Trump said back in November during an appearance on The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show that he would consider the former Fox News host as his potential veep.

“I like Tucker a lot; I guess I would,” Trump said. “I think I’d say I would, because he’s got great common sense.”

“You know, when they say that you guys are conservative, or I’m conservative — it’s not that we’re conservative, we have common sense. We want to have safe borders. We want to have a wall, because walls work,” he added.

The leading GOP contender suggested last week during the Fox News town hall aired to distract from the GOP primary debate being held by CNN that he has already made up his mind on his running mate.

“I know who it’s going to be,” Trump said.

Carlson was skeptical of the possibility, as seen in his remarks last month at the American Principles Project Foundation’s annual Christmas gala.

“God would have to yell at me very loud,” he said, according to The Hill.

When asked about a report that former first lady Melania Trump was advocating on his behalf, Carlson replied, “I don’t know her, really. To go from being, like, a well-paid street corner schizophrenic to, like, a politician — it’s just kind of hard to envision.”

Don Jr. dropped other potential running mates, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) and Ben Carson, who served as Trump’s HUD secretary during his first term.

As for Haley, he was adamantly opposed to the idea suggesting that she was being “funded by Democrats.”

“I would do whatever I could to make sure it wasn’t Nikki Haley!” Don Jr. “That’s my opinion, I don’t make these decisions.”
