According to Donald Trump Jr., the Make America Great Again movement IS the modern Republican Party in a nutshell.
Appearing on Newsmax this Saturday, he posited this theory while commenting on former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel being replaced by Michael Whatley and, more importantly, by Trump’s sister-in-law, Lara Trump.
Listen:
“I think the RNC is going to be a little bit more of that old-school establishment,” he said. “That Republican Party frankly no longer exists outside the D.C. beltway, but it takes a little while to make that transition.”
“But again, I think, the moves that happened today, I think that’s the final blow. People have to understand that America First — the MAGA movement — is the new Republican Party. That is conservatism today,” he added.
His response elicited mixed reactions, with some conservatives giving a thumbs-up and others giving a thumbs-down.

Sorry, Junior, there’s nothing conservative about it

Wrong.
Ron DeSantis is the standard bearer of the Republican Party.
MAGA is some hybrid of big spending liberalism with a few conservative policies sprinkled in.— Dan Daniels (@dan_themandan) March 10, 2024
You can redefine the GOP but you can’t redefine conservatism. And the two will never meet again until the Trump infestation is purged from the GOP. Also, being anti-Trump is NOT anti-conservative. You have the left and right opposing him. MAGA is not conservatism.

I am not MAGA, and right now I’m still debating whether I’m going to vote for Trump.
I’m in my 50s, I’ve never missed a local, state or federal election. I’ve voted republican every single time. This is a rough year to be a conservative, I ain’t gonna lie. I am not alone.— Kay Thomas (@KayNyne47) March 10, 2024
The remarks come amid an uproar over his sister-in-law, Lara, being elected as co-chair of the RNC. Many more establishment-type, anti-Trump conservatives have taken issue with it.
“After a lifetime of donating to every GOP nominee and multiple down ballot candidates every cycle….I’m out,” Peter Henlein, a “political junkie” followed by conservative commentator Ann Coulter, tweeted.
“I donated to help win elections, not to maintain the lifestyle of a billionaire. No point donating now,” he added.
His post inspired thousands of similar responses.

This leaves me no choice but to vote RFK. The Republican Party is done.

I will not donate another penny to the GOP as long as she is involved in its leadership.
— Dan Stilwell (@realdanstilwell) March 8, 2024
This is one of the worst things the GOP has ever done. This party needs a thorough cleansing.

Not a dime from me anymore.
After voting for DeSantis in the primary, I will change from GOP to Independent …— LibertyBell (@MinkyFreedom24) March 8, 2024
The RNC is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Trump campaign. One doesn’t have to be Nostradamus to know that this will end poorly for everyone but Trump. Let the looting commence. SMH #NeverAgainTrump

Part of their anger reportedly stems from what Lara has said in recent weeks.
“Anyone who is not on board with seeing Donald Trump as the forty-seventh president and America-loving patriots all the way down the ticket being supported by the RNC is welcome to leave because we are not playing games,” she told Real America’s Voice last week.
“We have no time to waste. We have to ensure that every single penny of every dollar donated goes to causes that people care about. That’s part of the reason that I think I’m such a great fit for this: There’s no one more loyal to Donald Trump and the Make America Great Again movement than this person you’re looking at right here; than me,” she added.

Also, during a Newsmax appearance last month, she vowed that if elected to the RNC, she would spend all its money on reelecting her father-in-law, former President Donald Trump.
“The RNC needs to be the leanest, most lethal political fighting machine we’ve ever seen in American history,” she said. “That is the goal over the next nine-and-a-half months.”
“If I am elected to this position, I can assure you, there will not be any more $70,000 — or whatever exorbitant amount of money it was — spent on flowers. Every single penny will go to the No. 1 and the only job of the RNC — that is elected Donald J. Trump as president of the United States and saving this country,” she added.
