Elise Stefanik mulls NY governor bid in challenge to Hochul

Republican Elise Stefanik is reportedly mulling a bid to challenge Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul for New York Governor.

Stefanik recently scored a glowing report from President Donald Trump, who praised the New York Representative.

The NY Rep recently made headlines when Trump withdrew her nomination as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and asked her to remain in Congress to solidify the Republicans’ slim majority.

“As we advance our America First Agenda, it is essential that we maintain EVERY Republican Seat in Congress. We must be unified to accomplish our Mission, and Elise Stefanik has been a vital part of our efforts from the very beginning,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“I have asked Elise, as one of my biggest Allies, to remain in Congress to help me deliver Historic Tax Cuts, GREAT Jobs, Record Economic Growth, a Secure Border, Energy Dominance, Peace Through Strength, and much more, so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” he added.

Stefanik is being pushed to run by fellow New York Republicans, GOP donors, and Trump allies, according to NBC sources.

George Pataki left office in 2007 and was the last Republican governor in New York.  Former Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin lost his bid for governor last year when he lost to Hochul by only 6 points, giving the GOP reason to believe Stefanik has a solid chance at taking the reins.

It didn’t take long for the news to spread, and plenty of X users celebrated the idea:

Hochul may also face Democratic challengers. Her lieutenant governor, Antonio Delgado, announced he would not seek reelection, fueling rumors he would run against Hochul.
