Expert says Garland, DOJ face ‘huge integrity test’ over Biden voicemail on Hunter’s dealings in China

The bombshell voicemail that confirms President Joe Biden knew all about his crack-smoking son’s business dealings in China has legal experts, including one Department of Justice veteran, all calling for action.

Indeed, to hear former Department of Justice organized crime chief Jim Trusty tell it, how current DOJ officials, particularly Attorney General Merrick Garland, choose to handle this bombshell will be “a huge integrity test.”

“Will they walk away from powerful evidence? Will they come up with a soft plea — like a tax charge — that does not remotely capture the actual wrongdoing? Or will they treat Hunter Biden like any other white-collar defendant in the federal system?” he said in remarks to the New York Post.

It doesn’t help that Garland already has a bad track record, according to legal scholar Jonathan Turley of George Washington University.

The voicemail “only magnifies the concerns over the failure of Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel with broad investigative authority,” he told the Post.

“The record is now replete with references to President Biden and contradictions of his public denials. The concern is that a plea bargain could effectively foreclose further inquiry or prosecution for possible crimes related to influence peddling.”

Calls for action are also coming from members of Congress:

In a statement to the Post, Rep. Claudia Tenney said, “Every piece of information that has come to light so far suggests President Biden knew exactly what Hunter was up to abroad, but many questions still remain. I look forward to a future Republican House majority focused on exposing the truth and pressing for accountability.”

Rep. Darrell Issa concurred.

“Throughout my review of our forensic copy of the Hunter Biden laptop, one conclusion is inescapable: Joe Biden has not told anything resembling the full truth and he needs to come clean. His refusal to do so is only making it worse, and the Congress should absolutely conduct a robust and responsible investigation,” he said.

In a statement of his own, Rep. Andy Biggs said the voicemail “confirms what most Americans already knew: President Biden has been complicit in Hunter Biden’s shady business dealings.”

“President Biden has repeatedly denied speaking to Hunter about his business dealings, but the evidence now is insurmountable. When Republicans take over the House in January, we will thoroughly investigate Hunter Biden’s business dealings and President Biden’s participation in his son’s activities,” he added.

Speaking on Fox News’ “Gutfeld!” late Tuesday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy appeared to promise the same — that there will absolutely be hearings on this subject.

“Is there some kind of investigation that will take place?” he was specifically asked by show host Greg Gutfeld.

“Well, there has to be, for all purposes right,” McCarthy replied.

He then went on to note how all of the leftist voices who’d called the Hunter Biden allegations “disinformation” have been proven wrong again and again and again.

“It was government, it was social networks, it was newspapers all saying this was wrong, and then you also had the head of the intel committee, Adam Schiff. This is a guy that gets all the secrets. He sat there and told us this was all farce,” he said.

What makes the latest bombshells all the more concerning is the president’s own complicity, McCarthy added.

“I mean, you could make a joke. You could say, yeah, I understand why the president thinks his son is the smartest man in the world: He got his father to pay for the hookers. But then he got the whole country to protect him at the same time. Could you imagine if Donald Trump, any one of his kids did one tenth or one thing like that?” he said.

The latest bombshell, unveiled earlier this week, was a voicemail message from 2018 in which then-former Vice President Biden told his son that he wanted to speak to him about a New York Times story concerning his dealings in China.

“Hey pal, it’s Dad. It’s 8:15 on Wednesday night. If you get a chance just give me a call. Nothing urgent. I just wanted to talk to you,” he said in the recording.

“I thought the article released online, it’s going to be printed tomorrow in the Times, was good. I think you’re clear. And anyway if you get a chance give me a call, I love you,” he added.
