‘F*ck you, Ted’ – Trump’s reported profane reaction to Ted Cruz’s midterm warning

Secret recordings of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) reportedly included an expletive from the president over criticism and slams of alleged coordination between a commentator and the vice president.

With plans for President Donald Trump to hit the campaign trail and for the Republican Party to hold a convention this year, it’s no mystery that the midterm elections are being taken seriously. How that played against the president’s policy decisions was an apparent part of a call filled with “cursing” as challenges to his tariffs were said to have been met with the reply, “F*ck you, Ted.”

According to secret recordings from early and middle 2025 that had been obtained by Axios, the senator had been meeting with donors while challenging decisions of the administration, allegedly jockeying for position for a potential 2028 presidential primary fight.

“Trump was in a bad mood.” Cruz reportedly said following the introduction of tariffs, adding the president was “yelling” and “cursing” on a call with some senators who’d pushed to walk back the economic policy. “I’ve been in conversations where he was very happy. This was not one of them.”

Citing the call, the senator was said to have recounted, warning, “Mr. President, if we get to November of [2026] and people’s 401(k)s are down 30% and prices are up 10-20% at the supermarket, we’re going to go into Election Day, face a bloodbath.”

“You’re going to lose the House, you’re going to lose the Senate, you’re going to spend the next two years being impeached every single week,” he went on before allegedly earning the response, “F*ck you, Ted.”

Where it concerned the president’s favor for designating his tariff imposition “Liberation Day,” Cruz was reported saying, “I’ve told my team if anyone uses those words, they will be terminated on the spot. That is not language we use.”

It was also reported that Cruz voiced disfavor for Vice President J.D. Vance’s ties to Tucker Carlson, which has included the employ of the commentator’s son, Buckley, on his staff.

“Tucker created JD. JD is Tucker’s protégé, and they are one and the same,” the senator was reported saying in addition to alleging the pair had encouraged then-National Security Advisor Mike Waltz be removed from his position over his support for strikes against Iran, as Waltz “supported being vigorous against Iran and bombing Iran — and Tucker and JD took Mike out.”

They were also said to have been behind the selection by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard of U.S. Army veteran Daniel Davis, a critic of the nation’s support for Israel, before Gabbard withdrew the nomination.

In recent months, the Texas lawmaker has not been shy about his criticism for Carlson, nor has he held back his opinion that his Republican colleagues should do the same.

Meanwhile, in response to Axios’ report, a spokesperson for Cruz described the senator as “the president’s greatest ally in the Senate and battles every day in the trenches to advance his agenda.”

“Those battles include fights over staffers who try to enter the administration despite disagreeing with the president and seeking to undermine his foreign policy,” the statement continued. “Sen. Cruz is proud of those fights, his accomplishments, and his close relationship with the president. These attempts at sowing division are pathetic and getting boring.”

Likewise, Carlson had told the outlet he “didn’t have anything to do” with Waltz or Davis.
