A young woman recently freed after being held hostage for weeks by Hamas shared a permanent message of defiance against the terrorists tattooed on her arm.
Two months removed from the horrors of Oct. 7 when people in Israel were slaughtered by the hundreds by radical Islamists, a survivor of the Tribe of Nova festival, who had been abducted where others had been run down to their deaths, spoke out in a big way against the brutality of her captors.
With one arm still bandaged from the injuries suffered by Hamas, 21-year-old Israeli-French tattoo artist Mia Schem showed off her latest ink that memorialized the tragedy with a promise to stand in opposition to the savagery wrought by the terrorists.
“We will dance again…7.10.23,” it read as the Instagram post shared by the young woman read, “I will never forget. The pain and the fear, the difficult sights, the friends that will not come back and the ones we must get back. But we are yet to win…”

Schem had only recently been returned to her family on Nov. 30 before a negotiated ceasefire orchestrated for the release of hostages had been broken by Hamas, evidently unable to restrain their bloodlust.
Hers was one of the many faces that became synonymous with the more than 200 men, women and children held hostage for weeks when, days after the jihadist attack, a video was posted to Telegram featuring Schem receiving medical care.
A translation of the video by the Jerusalem Post cited her as saying, “Currently, I’m in Gaza. I returned early Saturday morning from Sderot; I was at a party. I was seriously injured in my hand. I underwent surgery on my hand at the hospital [in Gaza] for 3 hours. They are taking care of me, giving me audience, everything is fine. I only ask that they bring me home as soon as possible to my parents, to my siblings. Get me out of here as soon as possible. Please.”

Liav Forer, the artist behind the new tattoo, posted to Instagram with a message that roughly translated as, “Mia after prayers and after much fear of not seeing you…I admire you! And my honor to tattoo you again, and it’s not a dream…I got my victory that you returned, a friend for life and a friend for work…After much crying and much pain, there are tears of joy. The most important thing is that we will never stop dancing.”

Schem was not alone in getting a tattoo to mark the terror attack committed by Hamas as Forer shared a video featuring other works done by the artist that he said “did something different to my heart…”

In addition to her defiant message against Hamas, the young woman shared her hope for those still in captivity as she celebrated the opportunity to mark Hanukkah with her family.
“Thank for the privilege of celebrating Hanukkah at home with the family,” she wrote. “I hope that the small light will drive away the big darkness. Waiting for all the kidnapped to return home.”
