First week sales of DeSantis’ book tops Trump, Obama, Clinton

There’s one undisputable fact when it comes to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Republican politician has the nation’s attention — which explains why he’s taking steady fire from Team Trump AND the agenda-driven liberal media.

While The Washington Post cited two sources to report on Thursday that DeSantis “has indicated privately that he intends to run for president,” the popular governor’s memoir, “The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Survival,” has reached the top of the New York Times Best Sellers list.

Whether the book is a prelude to a 2024 run or not, as some speculate it is, remains to be seen. However, DeSantis has one thing going for him if it is — first weeks sales of his book have bested books released by Donald Trump, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton ahead of their presidential bids.

“The Courage to Be Free” sold 94,300 copies in its first week out, Business Insider reported, citing NPD BookScan, which is considered the gold standard in POS tracking for the publishing market.

“The numbers go up to March 4 and include pre-orders but not e-books that people download onto their Kindles or other electronic devices,” Insider added.

Trump sold 27,687 copies of his 2015 book, “Crippled America” during its first week. Clinton sold 86,200 copies of her 2014 memoir “Hard Choices,” and Barack Obama sold 67.500 copies of his heavily promoted 2008 book, “The Audacity of Hope” in its first week.

A fresh Florida poll of the 2024 Republican Presidential Primary shows the race is Ron DeSantis‘ to lose if he actually runs.

As for his presidential aspirations, DeSantis trails Trump by a wide margin in many polls — the former president ran away with the recent straw poll at CPAC. However, a new poll in Florida has the governor nearly doubling up on Trump, according to Florida Politics.

The poll was commissioned by the University of North Florida Public Opinion Research Lab and shows DeSantis drawing 52% of responses in a head-to-head matchup with Trump, who garnered 27% support.

All of which shows that, should DeSantis take the presidential plunge, he will be a force to be reckoned with. As for Trump, he’s not waiting to find out and has compiled a 5-point plan to target the governor, according to Axios.

In what the news outlet presented as a “scoop,” the plan reportedly includes hitting DeSantis for past support for changes to Social Security and Medicare, disloyalty to Trump, alleged ties to former House Speaker Paul Ryan, DeSantis’ response to COVID, and his alleged wishy-washy approach to the war in Ukraine.
