Florida deputy defends bizarre traffic stop claim as department calls explanation ‘impossible

Many people argue they have been pulled over for bogus or petty reasons, but how many can say they’ve been clocked for something that is literally impossible?

A Florida deputy is being torn apart online after it was revealed he pulled over a woman, identified as Kathleen Thomas, for allegedly holding her cell phone in her right hand. He is very clear that this is the reason for the stop, but there is just one inconvenient detail: The woman does not have a right hand.

Watch:

The traffic stop was in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, in February, when a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy not only accused Thomas of doing the impossible, but doubled down on his allegation when she revealed there is literally no way she could have done what he claimed. He even issued the woman a ticket for the alleged infraction, which was eventually dismissed due to the obvious.

Palm Beach Sheriff Department’s Public Information Officer/Director of the Bureau of Public Affairs Terri Barbera told Fox News Digital that the department is “committed to enforcing Florida traffic laws.”

“In this particular case, the deputy initiated a traffic stop based upon his visual observation at the time of the incident. After additional review of the Florida State Statutes involved and based upon the totality of the circumstances, specifically the lack of clarity on how violations are labeled in our citation software, the decision was ultimately made to dismiss based upon the difference in wording between Florida State Statute 316.305 and 316.306,” she added.

The bodycam footage of the interaction was released online this month and has resulted in a mountain of backlash against the officer.
