Trump lashes out at major newspaper’s coverage of national landmark — calls report ‘fake and disgraceful’

President Donald Trump on Friday snapped at The New York Times for their obsessively biased reporting about the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

For weeks, the Times has been pushing out hit piece after hit piece attacking the president’s plan to renovate and beautify the Reflecting Pool.

One report complained about a company receiving a no-bid contract to fix leaks in the pool, while another report complained about the cost of the renovation rising to $13.1 million from Trump’s initial estimate of $1.8 million.

No matter the day, you can find the Times complaining about one aspect or another of the pool renovation plan — and evidently, the president has had enough of this whining.

Here’s what he posted to Truth Social late Friday evening:

In a lengthy post measuring over 400 words, the president tore into the “Failing New York Times” for “doing everything possible to criticize the magnificent restoration of the Reflecting Pool.”

He noted that the feds have already wasted “hundreds of millions of dollars” trying but failing to renovate it.

“Finally, we have professionals doing the right job for a tiny fraction of the money that has been spent, and The Failing New York Times continues to demean the work of these wonderful, talented, and proud construction professionals that are bringing this over 2,000 foot long pool, the largest in the World, BACK TO LIFE!” he added.

Trump then described some of the fixes that are being made, such as “restoring the walkway surfaces on each side, fixing the water system, drainage, and so much more.”

“The scope of the Project has been greatly enlarged as we became involved because we realized how important it would be to Washington, D.C., and the record number of visitors coming to our now very safe Capital for all of the upcoming events in celebration of our 250th Anniversary,” he noted.

Including, of course, the upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship fight:

“It is one of the most visited and photographed Pools in the World and, when we took it over, it was a disgusting, garbage strewn dump that leaked, smelled, and was an embarrassment to our Country, and two of our Greatest Presidents,” Trump wrote.

“All of that will soon be fixed for a small fraction of the Hundreds of Millions of Dollars that the Obama and Biden Administrations haplessly wasted, only to have a Pool that was in worse shape after they finished the job,” he continued.

Turning back to the Times, which he accused of “doing poorly,” the president concluded his Truth Social statement by urging the paper to focus on fixing its own ailments instead of hating on the pool renovation and America’s 250th birthday celebration.

The president’s critique of the Times came on the same day that the Columbus Fountain was reopened for the first time in nearly two decades.

“[T]he fountain stopped working in 2007 and was never repaired until now,” according to D.C. station WJLA. “The work was complete thanks to President Donald Trump’s executive order on ‘Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful.'”

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has committed himself to restoring all of D.C.’s monuments and fountains in preparation for America’s upcoming 250th birthday celebration.

Appearing on Fox News this Friday, Burgum said the current Columbus Fountain is a “complete 180 degree change from what we inherited in the Biden administration.”

“That’s 1 of 22 fountains that are being restored, over 48 monuments and statues being restored,” he added.
