Fmr Capitol Police officer starts PAC to fund anti-Trump political candidates

A 15-year veteran of the Capitol Police who lost a congressional bid as a Democrat has launched a political action committee (PAC) to block “MAGA extremists” running for office.

Harry Dunn, who uses his personal January 6 story in fundraising efforts, announced the launch of Dunn’s Democracy Defenders aimed at supporting any candidates who are running against pro-Trump Republicans.

The former Capitol Police officer is planning to use the group to endorse candidates “up and down the ballot” in an effort to stop former President Donald Trump and any who share his ideals from winning elections in November.

“The first thing I had to decide when you want to run for office is your why: Why are you doing this, why are you running?” Dunn told NBC News.

“My why is to do everything I can to protect the institution of Congress, to fight back against Donald Trump, to defend our Constitution, our democracy,” he continued. “Even though I came up short in the election, there definitely is room for me to continue to fight.”

Dunn claimed he doesn’t “see any Republicans on the other side aisle that are standing up to Donald Trump, it’s like they don’t exist anymore.”

“Donald Trump has surrogates, people in the Republican Party that want to do nothing except downplay, whitewash, diminish, flat out lie about what happened that day,” Dunn said, referring to the January 6, 2021 events at the U.S. Capitol.

“It’s not just regular everyday American citizens. These are elected officials that are whitewashing and saying these things. That’s why it’s so important that we never stop telling our story,” Dunn said.

Dunn announced his plans on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Wednesday, admitting to co-host Willie Geist that they aim to use fear-mongering about this being “potentially our last free and fair election” and use that “momentum” to get Democrats elected.

The former officer, who resigned from the Capitol Police in December 2023, lost the Democratic primary to state Senator Sarah Elfreth. However, he proved to be a “fundraising powerhouse” during the campaign, according to Newsweek.

“Campaign finance reports released in April showed that he had raised four times more money than any other candidate in Maryland’s crowded and competitive 3rd Congressional District, raking in $3.77 million in the first three months of the year,” Newsweek reported. “His new PAC will inherit the money leftover from his campaign, but it’s unclear how much that will be until reports are due this summer.”

Dunn and other former U.S. Capitol Police officers have been stumping for President Joe Biden, attacking Trump and “MAGA Republicans” along the way.

“This is about democracy versus dictatorship,” Dunn warned about the 2024 election while in Pittsburgh. “The choice could not be more clear.”

He was even in New York City as Trump’s hush-money trial played out, speaking at a press conference outside the courtroom where actor Robert De Niro had a headline-making meltdown.

As of this writing, Dunn’s social media page for the new PAC may have been suspended.

And while Dunn likely has an army of leftist support, it seems many X users were not impressed with his PAC.
