GOP Rep. Nancy Mace triggers pearl-clutching repeating perceived anti-trans slur: ‘I don’t really care’

U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace triggered a top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee when she referred to transgender people as “trannies.”

The remarks and subsequent meltdown by Oversight ranking member Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) came during a House hearing Wednesday on “Rightsizing government” after Mace brought up programs funded by the US Agency for International Development.

“Does this advance the interest of American citizens — paying for trannies in Guatemala to the tune of $2 million?” the South Carolina Republican asked, setting off pearl-clutching Democrats.

Connolly followed with a parliamentary inquiry over the congresswoman using the term he called a “slur.”

“The gentlelady has used a phrase that is considered a slur in the LGBTQ community and the trans community,” the Democrat told Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) as Mace interjected.

“Let me please finish without interruption,” he snapped.

“Tranny, tranny, tranny!” Mace, responded. “I don’t really care. You want penises in women’s bathrooms and I’m not gonna have it. No, thank you. It’s disgusting.”

“To me, a slur is a slur,” replied Connolly, who defeated Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to serve as the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee.

“And here in the committee, a level of decorum requires us to try consciously to avoid slurs. You just heard that gentlelady actually actively, robustly repeat it,” the 74-year-old added.

Mace declared she was “not going to be counseled by a man over men and women’s spaces or men who have mental health issues dressing as women.”

Comer responded by saying he would “look into” Connolly’s request, adding that he was “not up to date on my politically correct LGBTQ term terminology.”

Mace’s full remarks included her calling out the funding of some of the “dumbest” and “stupidest” initiatives. She also shared her mock concern for the masked man behind Connolly.

Her fiery exchange with Connolly was, not surprisingly, condemned by leftists but many on social media applauded her boldness.
