Outspoken chairwoman of the California Republican Party and GOP lawyer Harmeet Dhillon is considering a bid to replace Ronna McDaniel as chair of the Republican National Committee.
Dhillon, who has close ties to former President Donald Trump, told Fox News Digital that Republicans are looking for a change in leadership.
“Grassroots Republicans, donors and fellow RNC members alike have been reaching out to me since the midterm elections seeking changes in Republican leadership,” she said. “After successive disappointing election cycles, I believe we owe it to our voters to have an honest dialogue about the direction of our party and what needs to change for us to win in 2024.”

McDaniel has already announced that she will be seeking a third term as RNC chairwoman, and Dhillon, who is scheduled as a Monday guest on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” could make an announcement this week.
McDaniel, who served as chairwoman of the Michigan Republican Party, won’t give up her position without a fight. She has stated she already has several high-profile state GOP chairmen backing her re-election.
The RNC chair is determined by a majority vote of the committee’s 168 members, comprised of state GOP chairmen and national committeemen. According to McDaniel, at least 100 of the RNC members are in her corner.
However, disappointing results in the November midterm elections have many blaming the existing GOP leadership for failing to produce a “Red Wave” amid disastrous approval ratings for President Joe Biden and the highest inflation in four decades.
I was recently in SF and spent an hour with Harmeet in her office. To say I was blown away is an understatement. Thoughtful, passionate, and brilliant, but at the SAME time (more importantly) kind and humble. A rare combination and an essential one for an effective leader.

It was after the expected wave turned into a trickle that barely delivered Republicans control of the House that Dhillon began considering a challenge to McDaniel.
“Americans are seriously suffering, and Republicans can only help if we win,” Dhillon said. “I hope that we can unite as an RNC after hearing from actual Republican voters that they want – and demand – change, and I’m seriously considering stepping up to that leadership challenge.”
Should she decide to go for it, she’ll have to beat out controversial MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, who announced his run last week.
And both Dhillon and McDaniel could face a far more serious challenge from outgoing GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin, who surprised the nation by giving Democrat New York Governor Kathy Hochul a serious run for her money.
Though Zeldin lost the gubernatorial race, he is widely credited for causing a red wave of his own in the Empire State.

On Sunday, Zeldin tweeted, “I’ve been seriously considering your requests to run for RNC Chair.”
He stated he will announce his intentions “at 8am EST on December 7th,” adding that he is waiting until after the Georgia runoff for a coveted U.S. Senator seat to keep the focus on Republican candidate Herschel Walker.
I’ve been seriously considering your requests to run for RNC Chair. I will announce my decision at 8am EST on December 7th, waiting until Wednesday to keep the focus on the Georgia runoff. If you live in Georgia, please vote for @HerschelWalker!

Online, Twitter users are expressing their support for Dhillon.
“If Harmeet Dhillon (@pnjaban) is running against Ronna McDaniel for the RNC chair position, then I back her 100%,” tweeted one user. “Harmeet is not out of touch and a force to be reckoned with.”
“I would love to see Harmeet Dhillon as chair of the RNC,” wrote another. “It would put credibility and a great legal mind in charge of the organization. Both are sorely needed.”
And a third user enthusiastically proclaimed, “Harmeet would be killer!!”
