A Pennsylvania home’s Halloween decorations have spooked some residents and conjured up the involvement of the NAACP and local officials who urged the homeowner to take them down.
The display, which is located at a home in Bucks County, has sparked a backlash from those who suggest that it’s racist and inappropriate for a homeowner to decorate his own house with imagery that some have likened to lynching and the racial violence that once existed in the nation’s history.

Several fake, dead bodies wrapped in what appear to be black trash bags sway from a tree above tombstones, and one body is lashed to the trunk. There are also ghoulish scarecrow figures featured in the display, which the homeowner said were purchased online as a kit and that he had no intention of offending anyone.
But oh, how they were offended.
“I’m just looking at it and I’m just thinking to him, like, ‘do you not see what’s wrong with this?'” Roshea Newkirk, a resident of Bristol Borough, complained, according to Philadelphia’s NBC 10.
“My mind went back to what my ancestors went through,” one black woman said of the display. “Being hung from trees, with nooses around their neck.”
Halloween displays with body bags are now “painful” for blacks and “must be removed”

“SOMETHING CAN BE LEGALLY PERMISSIBLE AND STILL BE PROFOUNDLY HARMFUL,” the Bucks County NAACP said in a statement posted to social media.

“The NAACP Bucks County Branch is deeply concerned by a Halloween display in Bristol Borough, Pennsylvania, depicting simulated bodies hanging from a tree,” the organization wrote. “For Black Americans, this imagery carries a painful historical significance rooted in lynching and racial terror. While we recognize that Halloween decorations are often intended to frighten or shock, intent does not erase impact.”
“On October 7, our branch received a complaint from a concerned resident seeking assistance. We have since followed up and are calling for continued engagement by borough leadership and voluntary reconsideration of the display,” the statement read.
“This is not about restricting Halloween celebrations or freedom of expression. It is about historical awareness, empathy, and respect for our neighbors,” the NAACP said. “We cannot change our history, but we can choose how we respond when that history is invoked in our communities today.”
Complaints about the controversial display were escalated to the local government, with borough officials reaching out to the homeowner to take the decorations down. He declined to do so.
“Just so you know, our borough inspector did stop there and talk to him, but we were unsuccessful,” an official said during a city council meeting last week, NBC 10 reported.
“He feels they’re Halloween decorations and he won’t take them down. And we don’t have an ordinance against anything like that,” the local official explained.
But not all neighborhood residents were triggered.
“At first I looked at it, and it’s a little bit different. Like, but then I’m looking, it’s Halloween. My house is scary. My house is always scary. It’s always set up scary. Same thing. Dead bodies laying around, skeletons. It’s Halloween,” said Bristol Borough resident Mike Wade.
As usual, it seems it’s always the thin-skinned spoilsports and hyper-sensitive racial grievance mongers who try to ruin everything for people who just want to enjoy the season and have fun.
