‘I could have died’: NFL Hall of Famer on dispute with neighbor had ‘wrong type of cops’ showed up

NFL Hall of Famer Terrell Owens says the story of his run-in with an angry neighbor could have ended with his death had the “wrong type of cops” responded to the incident that went viral earlier this week.

As BizPac Review reported, Owens, 48, faced off against a “Karen” neighbor on Wednesday night after the woman accused the All-Pro receiver of speeding through the neighborhood.

Owens posted the entire exchange — including his conversation with police officers — to his Instagram account.

“I’m driving to my mailbox, she’s telling me that I’m speeding,” Owens told police. “Telling me to slow down.”

The bicycle-riding woman called the cops on Owens and accused him of trying to intimidate her.

“He got out of his car and started harassing me,” the woman told the officers.

“But you didn’t have to get out of your f***ing car!” she hollered at Owens.

“You didn’t have to talk to me that way, either,” he replied.

And that’s when things got “racey.”

“You’re a black man approaching a white woman!” the woman exclaimed before bursting into tears.

“He literally came after me,” the woman wept.

“I didn’t almost hit you, now you’re just making up stuff, just like a Karen,” Owens stated.

Speaking on TMZ Sports, Owens said, “I honestly could have died.”

“If the wrong type of cops came out, if they got the wrong type of information. Her, you saw the video, she started crying, you never know how that situation could’ve turned,” he explained.

The man who played for the 49ers, the Eagles, and the Cowboys said he was “very aware” of the ways the encounter could go sideways and stayed calm out of fear for his safety.

“I could’ve died,” he insisted. “Honestly, I could have died and the storyline would be totally different.”

Of course, that didn’t happen. The police officers did what the vast majority of police officers in America do: They maintained order, took down the facts, and sent the feuding neighbors on their respective ways.

But, now that he’s had a chance to think things over, Owens says the woman should face consequences for her actions.

Specifically, he hopes that Florida’s state Attorney General Ashley Moody will step in.

“I’m hoping the people here in Florida, they’re monitoring what has transpired,” he said.

“I’m hoping that maybe [Ashley Moody] can get on this and see what can be done,” he continued, “because like I said, this could’ve turned really, really bad and like I said, this could’ve been a situation where you guys may not have been talking to me live here today, but been talking about me in another way.”

On Twitter, Owens urged fans to sign a Change.org petition that called on authorities to jail Caitlyn Davis, aka “Karen,” for filing a “false racist police report.”

“Regarding the incident that took place last night,” he tweeted, “NEED YOUR HELP by signing this petition to put Caitlyn Davis aka another “Karen” in jail that endangered my life.”

As of this writing, 15,227 people have signed.
