President Joe Biden’s failing response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine further emboldened international aggressors and, as the administration appears to be playing foreign policy chicken with the Chinese Communist Party, Iran ramped up their own saber-rattling with threats of turning one major U.S. city into a “hellish ruin.”
Democrats have insisted on a return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), better known as the Iran Nuclear Deal, despite the inherent danger of a nuclear-capable Iran. As the largest state sponsor of terrorism, any claim to be developing their nuclear program with the sole intent of energy production went out the window Saturday when, ahead of a United Nations gathering in New York City reviewing the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced they were prepared to destroy the city in response to any hostilities against them.
Iranian state media posted a just over two-minute long video titled, “When Will Iran’s Sleeping Warheads Awaken” that opened with a taunt of the United States and Israel. “The start of uranium enrichment at a secret facility deep in the deserts of Fordow has frightened the West and the Zionist regime.”

“The nuclear facilities of Fordow have been built deep under mountains of Iran and are protected against trench-busting bombs and even nuclear explosion,” it went on. “All infrastructures required for nuclear breakout have been prepared in it.”
Earlier in July, it was reported that the Fordow nuclear facility had attained uranium enrichment levels up to 20 percent purity despite having claimed in 2009, well before the 2015 nuclear deal, that enrichment at the plant would not exceed 5 percent, the threshold required for nuclear power.
“Another issue that has made the U.S. extremely cautious in its positions towards Iran is Iran’s intercontinental ballistic missiles, the technology for which has been obtained with the help of the aerospace program, which gives Iran the capability to turn New York into ruins and hell in case of a hostile act by the U.S,” the video continued with its direct threat against the United States.
Of note, at the same time that it was being reported that Fordow had attained higher levels of uranium enrichment, the NYC Emergency Management Department had released a PSA on what to do in the event of a nuclear attack.

Many asked at the time what may have prompted the release of such a panic-inducing message, and it is quite possible that these videos may have a direct correlation. What’s certain, according to Lisa Daftari, editor-in-chief of The Foreign Desk, is that “These threats are a direct result of a weak and unclear foreign policy coming from the White House. The Iran regime would not be so brazen as to make threats toward the U.S. if it did not feel that it has the upper-hand in dealing with the U.S. and world powers,” she told Fox News Digital.
“Ever since Biden began campaigning for presidency, he made it clear that he would do a 180 from Trump’s Iran policies and that gave Tehran the signal to turn off its surveillance cameras, to deny access to inspectors and to spin its centrifuges at 60 percent,” Daftari explained. “The Biden administration kept going back to the negotiating table for a deal making it clear that Iran did not have to show any good behavior or change in demeanor to get a deal.”
Even after the release of the video, Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced while in attendance at the United Nations conference in NYC that he is pushing for a full return to the JCPOA.

“Iran is playing out the clock and taking advantage of the current White House’s policies,” Daftari concluded.
