Sean Hannity, who followed Tucker Carlson in the Fox News primetime lineup — or at least, he did until Monday — said on his radio show that he did not have a clue why Carlson and the network parted ways.
Fox News dropped the bombshell announcement Monday that Carlson was out and the rumors have been flying ever since. The recent $787.5 million settlement with Dominion Voting Systems is at the top of that list, and another theory getting traction is that Big Pharma may have played a role. The Los Angeles Times reported that “the decision to fire Carlson came straight from Fox Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch with input from board members and other Fox Corp. executives, and that the decision was related to a discrimination lawsuit filed earlier this year by former booker Abby Grossberg.
As perplexed as anyone, Hannity said on his daily radio show of Carlson’s departure, “It’s very hard.”
“My phone has been blowing up all day. The hard part for me is I don’t have a clue … I have no idea. Was it Tucker’s decision? Was it Fox’s? Was it a mutual agreement that they had? I don’t know,” he told his audience. “I guess people think that because I’ve been there the longest that I’d have some knowledge or understanding of what’s going on, but… I just don’t.”
“For those who think I should,” he continued, “I say to those people: ‘I don’t own the company.’”
Interestingly, Vanity Fair cited a “source” to report on Monday that Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott “refused” to tell Carlson why he was being terminated, and that the ousted host believes he was fired “because the Murdoch children plan to sell Fox News at some point.”
Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly also had little information on why the split occurred, but she was adamant that Carlson is better off now that he has no corporate oversight.
“I don’t know what drove Fox News to make this decision, and it was clearly Fox News’ decision because they’re not letting him say goodbye. That’s my supposition. That’s not inside knowledge,” Kelly said.
“I think this is a massive error. I think this is a massive misjudgment of what their audience wants,” she added.
