The latest indication that Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s politically motivated Jan. 6 select committee has no smoking gun to prove that former President Donald Trump was responsible for the U.S. Capitol protest that got out of hand can be seen in the interesting strategy of trying to claim Trump and his family are grifters taking advantage of everyday supporters.
The dog and pony show being televised is proving to be little more than an extended Democratic Party infomercial fully supported by the corporate media, and the latest bombshell to emerge is that former Fox News host and Trump campaign adviser Kimberly Guilfoyle was paid $60,000 to speak on the Ellipse early on Jan. 6, this even coming well before the protest at the Capitol.
U.S. Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., a member of the Jan. 6 panel, was tapped to be the frontperson on a campaign designed to further denigrate Trump ahead of a possible 2024 White House bid to reclaim a seat the former president still insists was stolen from him in a “rigged” election. Monday’s big reveal seemed to be that Trump pushed a baseless voter fraud claim to raise money, with Lofgren claiming he “used the lies he told to raise millions of dollars from the American people.”
Appearing on ever-friendly CNN after Monday’s hearing that few Americans are paying attention to, she was set up nicely by anchor Jake Tapper, who noted that “there was almost a through-line that you and the committee members thought that some of Trump’s supporters are victims of this, even some of those who got swept up on Jan. 6.”
“That they got grifted by this fundraising appeal that was going out several times a day to raise money for battles in courts that didn’t happen, and also you showed people deceived, talking about why they were there on Jan. 6,” he added.

Running with her cue, Lofgren replied, “People were conned by the former president. They were conned into believing that the election had been stolen and that they should go to the Capitol, as the president asked them to.”
“I think the average donation from those email — false email requests was something like $17,” she said. “These were people that weren’t rich people. They were conned by the president whose was a Big Lie was also a Big Rip-Off.”
Perhaps Democrats feel there’s more life in trying to separate Trump from his very loyal followers than there is in trying to destroy him. When asked by Tapper if the fundraising practices broke any laws, she said “that’s for somebody else to decide.”
Either way, Guilfoyle was highlighted as evidence of the so-called grift because she was paid a fee to speak at the event — the fact that her speech was under three minutes being used as additional fodder. Never mind that she is a professional woman who has built value around her name because of a successful career in television and has a right to expect compensation for her efforts.
“Guilfoyle was paid for the introduction she gave at the speech on Jan. 6. She received compensation for that,” Logren told Tapper, adding that it was “$60,000 for two and a half minutes.”
Heck, it would take first son Hunter Biden several hours to burn through that kind of cash on a typical weekend crack bin with hookers.
What Lofgren didn’t explain is how the committee came to learn about the alleged payment to Guilfoyle or under what circumstances it was made, as noted by Forbes.
Donald Trump Jr., to whom Guilfoyle is engaged, offered his take on the hearings Monday after U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., chairman of the Jan. 6 committee, said that they will not be making any criminal referrals. “Almost like it’s just political theater,” Don Jr tweeted
