JD Vance stood on stage for over an hour taking unscreened questions from students

Vice President JD Vance delivered a knockout performance while speaking and answering questions live at a Turning Point USA event hosted on Wednesday at the University of Mississippi.

What made his performance so remarkable was that he was trying to fit into the shoes of the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

“When Vice President JD Vance steps onstage tonight at the SJB Pavilion for a Turning Point USA event, he’ll face a formidable challenge. He will try to engage in a spirited back-and-forth with college students and live up to comparisons to his late friend, Charlie Kirk,” MSNBC correctly reported prior to the event.

Even Andrew Kolvet, the producer of the “Charlie Kirk Show,” was impressed by Vance’s performance — so much so, he called it a “complete masterclass” in a tweet:

Indeed, on every issue he was questioned, Vance delivered a knockout punch. Consider, for example, what he told a student who complained about prayer in public schools.

“I make no apologies for believing that Christianity is a pathway to God,” the vice president said, according to NBC News. “I make no apologies for thinking that Christian values are an important foundation of this country, but I’m not going to force you to believe in anything, because that’s not what God wants, and that’s not what I want.”

He later sparred with a young woman who complained about his desire to limit legal immigration.

“What is the exact number of immigrants America should accept in the future?” he rhetorically asked her. “Right now, the answer is far less than we’ve been accepting. We’ve got to become a common community again, and you can’t do that when you have such high numbers of immigration.”

Vance also addressed a woman who asked about President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Rep. Thomas Massie’s opponent.

“Being independent, having your own opinions, is one thing,” the VP said. “It’s not one issue; it’s not three or four issues. It’s that every time that we’ve needed Thomas for a vote, he has been completely unwilling to provide it. That is why the president of the United States has trained his ire on Thomas Massie. It’s because we can never count on him for some of the most difficult votes.”

At one point, Vance addressed those who have accused President Trump of being controlled by Israel.

Vance’s appearance at the event began with him being invited on stage by Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, and receiving a hug from her.

“Each one of you in this room, everyone watching, when you earn your voice and you stand up for what is right, that is a part of your legacy, your family’s legacy, just as much as it is part of Charlie’s legacy,” she later told the crowd.

“Don’t forget that. Don’t ever forget that, because if there’s one thing I’ve learned, especially being with Charlie for the past seven years, it’s that the hope we’re looking for is not found in Washington. It’s not found in the media. It’s right here, all of you,” she added.
