Jennifer Lopez blasted over launch of new alcohol brand after years of avoiding booze: ‘Get that bag girl’

At 53, Jennifer Lopez says she’s finally realized the importance of having fun, and to help put her and others in the mood to play, she’s launched a new alcohol brand, Delola.

There’s only one problem: The actress/singer/world-class dancer has long stated she doesn’t drink, and her sudden move to capitalize on cocktails is receiving double-shots of scorn online.

“I have been grinding non-stop for decades, and more and more I’m realizing the importance of enjoying life,” J.Lo stated in an Instagram video promoting the drink. “I just wanted to create something better — something better tasting, better ingredients, something I would want to drink with my friends and family, and that is Delola.”

Fans of the “Let’s Get Loud” singer immediately expressed their dismay over what they see as nothing more than a money grab.

“She doesn’t even drink but get that bag girl,” replied one user to her Instagram announcement.

“Oh wow. This is disappointing,” wrote another. “Why not create a NA brand considering you’ve been outspoken about the negative affects [sic] of alcohol and that you yourself don’t drink? This feels so off-brand for you, genuinely curious why you’re selling alcohol.”

“Jlo you don’t drink,” stated a third. “This is like something that is known and has been pointed out on numerous occasions. I mean….I get it- a coin is a coin- but mama you don’t drink alcohol.”

Others noted that her husband, actor Ben Affleck, is sober.

“You’re married to a recovering alcoholic and you’ve said countless times you don’t drink…but okay,” one user wrote.

Indeed, Affleck has been to rehab more than once, battling an addiction he says began when he was a teenager. In March 2017, the “Good Will Hunting” star took to Facebook, following his second stint in rehab to talk about his future life of sobriety.

“I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront,” he wrote, according to US Weekly. “I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.”

But according to a press release issued on Tuesday, Lopez says she created the Italian-inspired House of Delola LLC “to launch unique, mixology-level ready-to-enjoy cocktails designed for elegant, effortless entertaining as part of a thoughtful lifestyle,” the Daily Mail reports.

“I love entertaining and to relax and unwind with friends,” Lopez says in her video. “But never found a drink that was right for me.”

“I was in search of something that I could enjoy that fit the thoughtful way that I live my life,” she continues. “When I didn’t find it, I decided to create Delola.”

And while Lopez has often said in interviews that she doesn’t often drink, her promise of Delola’s “better ingredients, better taste, fewer calories” does track with the reasons she has given for her past abstinence.

Lopez never claimed she was sober, in the 12-Step sense of the word.

She didn’t drink because she wanted to maintain her famously glowing skin.

“I don’t drink or smoke or have caffeine,” she previously said, according to The List. “That really wrecks your skin as you get older.”
