CNN’s Jim Acosta is convinced the sky is falling in Virginia and the culprit is none other than Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin.
“I seem to remember Glenn Youngkin campaigning in a fleece vest in Virginia,” Acosta said. “He was running as a different kind of Republican. I was told there was going to be a vest, not a Soviet-style police state across the Potomac from Washington.”

The remark came during a discussion Tuesday with hard-left writer Molly Jong-Fast, with Acosta commenting on Youngkin embracing culture war issues.
Jong-Fast took exception to Youngkin giving parents the right to decide of their children should wear masks in school, spewing, “He’s gone full Ron DeSantis right away.”
This being a reference to governor of Florida, of course. The left are up in arms over DeSantis taking a firm stand for individual freedom over heavy-handed government control.
The online reaction to Acosta was swift, with the majority of people pointing out that dictators aren’t usually interested in giving people more freedom to make their own choices.
Here’s a sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
Jim he’s been governor for a week… calm down.

I like he makes things up as he goes along just to fill the dead airtime on his show.

Maybe he didn’t get the memo that we voted Northam out? 🤔

Did not know the Soviets were so pro school choice, pro-transparency and pro-parent.

I mean, sure, the same Soviet-style police state that was named #1 state for business two consecutive years, the first time that’s ever happened.

A place where the government does NOT mandate masks and vaccinations is similar to a Soviet style police state?
Using words, make this make sense.

Perhaps Acosta is trying to garner attention after his special Democracy in Peril accumulated just barely over half a million viewers in the primetime hour.
American Wire previously reported:
The premiere of Jesse Watters’ eponymous show Jesse Watters Primetime attracted a massive 3.8 million total average viewers, with 537,000 of those being in the key 25-54 age group. This places him in second place, just behind another Fox program, The Five. The maiden show doubled the audience from the same day last year, which is a spectacular showing for the network.
On the other hand, Jim Acosta’s primetime special, Democracy in Peril, pulled in a measly 511,000 total average viewers, which means Watters pulled 3.3 million more viewers. This is a massive difference.
