There are few Americans who don’t look at the insurance business as little more than a racket, especially when it comes to health insurance in post-Obama America.
It was on that note that popular podcaster Joe Rogan commented on the seeming lack of sympathy over UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson being gunned down on a Manhattan sidewalk.
On Tuesday’s episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, which featured filmmaker Quentin Tarantino and producer Roger Avary, Rogan said the insurance game is a “dirty, dirty business.”

“I don’t think this guy was a professional,” Rogan said of Luigi Mangione, the suspected killer who was arrested on Monday at a McDonald’s in Altoona, PA.
I think this guy, if I had to guess, was some guy who got f*cked over. Apparently, that company (United Healthcare Group) is really bad at denying claims,” he added.
Avary chimed in to suggest that United Healthcare Group had a 34% denial rate, while Rogan noted that the industry average was around 16%,
“I don’t think anybody’s going to be like crying too hard over that guy,” Avary added, with a laugh.
“Maybe his family, but that’s about it,” Rogan said. “It’s a dirty, dirty business. The business of insurance is f*cking gross. It’s gross. Especially healthcare insurance. It’s f*cking gross.”
Mangione, a former Ivy League student, reportedly had back surgery not too long ago.
The killing has spurred plenty of talk about health insurance, but rational people agree wholeheartedly that no matter how bad things may be it does not justify murder.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
2 things can be true at once. The healthcare industry is corrupt, but also the CEO should not have been murdered.

The entire healthcare system is corrupt.

It does raise an eyebrow or two but this is definitely not the way to go about it.

Having work for years begging insurance companies to get pre-authorization for patient treatments, I agree – there is much room for improvement; however, nothing justifies murder.

I blame the hospitals & doctors more even tho they work hand in glove. It’s easy to get mad at insurance cuz that’s who we send our payment to but they typically work with 4-5% profit margins while the hospitals charge super outrageous prices for everything.

Most everyone has had a claim not paid but most everyone would not murder someone over it either. I certainly wouldn’t . I certainly will not celebrate the murder of the CEO of an insurance company either. He, above everything was a human being, a father, a husband.
