John Kerry, the former secretary of state, was dragged on social media after seeming to wag an accusing finger about the climate “crisis.”
The nation’s first Special Presidential Envoy for Climate tweeted a message Friday quoting himself from a speech he gave at the Munich Security Conference.
“This crisis is existential. If we know it’s existential, we have to behave like it’s existential,” read Kerry’s tweet.

During remarks at a special session of the conference, Kerry said: “We need to be working hand in hand with the private and public sector to provide the finance, which will be critical – finance in the trillions – in order so that countries can do what they have to do.”
“Failure is really not an option if we expect to pass the Earth on in the shape that it needs to be to future generations. So we all need to determine what success looks like, how to achieve it, and commit ourselves, above all, to get this job done,” he also commented.
Kerry had contended that “when we talk about the impacts of climate change, we’re talking about security — energy security, economic security, food security, even physical security.”
But for all his admonishment that the so-called climate crisis is a security issue and an “existential crisis,” the 2004 Democratic Party nominee for president forgot to look in the mirror.

“John Kerry tweeted this while flying on his private jet,” Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas tweeted.
“John Kerry’s private jet emits about the same amount of carbon on one round-trip flight to Davos as the average American emits per year” journalist Drew Holden noted on Twitter.
Kerry’s lack of self-awareness was called out by plenty of others as well.

Keep in mind that yesterday alone, John Kerry flying aboard Heinz-57 One, his private jet, threw more CO2 into the atmosphere than virtually all of you individually will produce this year. https://t.co/wKpS2OaB1B

When he says “we”, he means the rest of us.

One of these days I’m gonna write a piece about how the most under discussed component of climate change policy is that no one actually cares about climate change, with the exception of the same dozen or so environmentalists who have since the 80s and some scared kids.
