Karl Rove warns Trump admin it needs to fine tune Bidenesque economic messaging

Karl Rove expressed concern about the GOP’s messaging on the economy with the midterms now only three months away.

The former George W. Bush administration official and Fox News pundit warned that the Trump administration’s messaging is falling flat with voters, especially when it comes to affordability, likening the sunny communications strategy to that of Joe Biden.

The disgraced former president and his mouthpieces regularly engaged in turd polishing about the real impact of “Bidenomics,” which brought a period of prolonged inflation, the highest in four decades, and it didn’t resonate with real Americans who got a reminder of reality every time they were in the grocery store checkout line.

Rove offered the current administration his sage advice on how to avoid falling into the same trap during an appearance on Monday’s edition of “Kudlow” on Fox Business, and it includes leveling with the people.

“The numbers are looking pretty good, Karl,” the host said. “We were talking about it at the top of the show. We’ve got very good manufacturing numbers, and the basic core GDP and so forth, and jobs.”

“These messages on affordability and growth, as you put it — which I totally agree…are they, you know, are they being… is the messaging being messaged properly?” Kudlow asked.

“I think more could be done,” Rove bluntly responded. “Look, you cannot do,  and we are doing right now what Joe Biden did, ‘everything’s great.’ You know, we can’t go out and say, ‘It’s the best economy the world’s ever seen,’ that’s not what people are feeling.”

“What we’ve got to remind them is that we’ve taken steps to make it better, and those steps resonate with ordinary people,” the veteran political strategist added.

“But we don’t have a good messaging right now, we’re distracted because of the war and even then, we’re just not getting the message across, in my opinion,” he said, pointing out that the ongoing war in Iran has been problematic for Republicans and their president.

The host then asked Rove about the upcoming midterm GOP convention in September and whether that would be an opportunity to get all of the ducks in a row for the final stretch.

“Well, it could certainly get people in the right place for the final 60-some-odd days of the campaign,” Rove said, but stressed that getting the messaging right is a matter of urgency. “But, A, it’s got to be done today rather than waiting five more weeks until September, and B, it needs to be done by our candidates in their own individual states and districts.”

When asked about the war and its impact by Kudlow, Rove suggested that President Donald J. Trump has to do a better job in selling it to the American people.

“I do think the Americans like to go for a winner, and we particularly going to go for the winner when it’s such a virulent enemy of the United States,” he told the host. “But we have got to have a president out there explaining it, making it clear, being reasonable, straightforward, and recognize that this is not going to be solved by the time of the election in all likelihood.”

Trump has frequently boasted about having the “greatest” economy ever, but the truth is that many voters just aren’t feeling it, and time is running out to persuade them that they’re living in the “new golden age” before the midterms.
