Kellyanne Conway and Meghan McCain reportedly had an exchange “like something from the Real Housewives” after a women’s event.
After sharing a stage at The Washington Post Global Women’s Summit over the weekend, Conway reportedly confronted McCain backstage, calling out the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain for the “vile and bile” she spewed while a co-host on “The View.”
The two faced off when the former senior counselor in President-elect Donald Trump’s first administration asked McCain about past comments on her marriage, a witness told The Daily Beast.
According to the unnamed witness who spoke with the outlet, the exchange between the women was “like something from the Real Housewives,” though Conway contends she “privately and calmly” addressed McCain who had once called Conway’s marriage “gross.” The couple, who share four children, announced last year that they were ending their 22-year marriage.
“Kellyanne walked up to Meghan and said, ‘I wasn’t going to say this while I was miked but do you remember what you said about me and my marriage on The View?’” the source told the Daily Beast.
“You called my marriage ‘gross,’” she reportedly added, referring to her marriage to Never Trumper George Conway.
“Do you realize what you said and what you did? Do you realize all the people you hurt?” Conway reportedly asked McCain who appeared “shaken” and then left the event, according to the witness. “Meghan looked shaken and was just trying to get out of there.”
“I heard Meghan say to her, ‘I don’t remember what I said that hurt you,’” the witness recounted, saying McCain apologized. “Meghan said it was making her uncomfortable but that seemed to make it worse.”
The Conways were frequent gossip topics for the anti-Trump co-hosts of “The View” and in a 2019 segment of the show, McCain remarked, “I think they have a really sick relationship.”
“They have four kids at home and they’re going to read this someday,” McCain, who left the show in 2021, said at the time. “The idea that me and my husband would be somehow feuding with each other over our work, I think it’s gross. I don’t know why America has to be subjected to their marital problems.”
In a comment to The Daily Beast about her confrontation with McCain, Conway said, “I waited until the cameras and microphones were off to privately and calmly address the very public insults she has directed at my family.”
“She may wish to outrun her recent past as a years-long resident Mean Girl on The View and Bravo, where her mouth was a spigot of vile and bile hurled toward people and topics she does not know, including my marriage and children, and casually lying about silly things like me calling her (I don’t have her number),” she added.
McCain reportedly told the outlet, “It was a bizarre experience and certainly not what I expected when I accepted an invitation to speak at an event hosted by The Washington Post and Tina Brown. The only reason why their marriage was ever a hot topic was because they were constantly airing their dirty laundry to America.”
