LeBron James is tired of being AI-pregnant, takes action against company allowing shenanigans

LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers is reportedly not finding the humor in artificial intelligence-generated images of himself.

The NBA superstar has been depicted as pregnant in AI versions that have gone viral on social media, and the creators of the image generation tool have reportedly received a cease-and-desist letter from James’ lawyers.

“The creators of an AI tool and Discord community that allowed people to create AI videos of NBA stars says that it got a cease-and-desist letter from lawyers representing LeBron James,” according to 404 Media.

The outlet noted how the tool, Interlink AI, “runs on a larger AI generation platform called FlickUp.”

“On the Interlink AI Discord channel, people were learning how to make the videos with detailed guides that in some cases explained exactly how to make videos of James,” 404 Media explained.

FlickUp founder Jason Stacks told 404 Media reporter Jason Koebler that generative AI is the “‘wild west’ when it comes to copyright & IP, but we’re committed to being on the right side of that change.”

“In June, Interlink removed realistic models from their platform, citing ‘legal issues’ in an announcement on their Discord,” according to SF Gate. “Stacks has not publicly shared the letter beyond a folded version of it in an Instagram post about the legal threat. Though deepfakes of celebrities have prompted pushback before, this is one of the first cases in which a high-profile individual threatened direct legal action.”

Many social media users thought James was overreacting and suggested the viral clips would have blown over if his lawyers had not acted.
