Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), who was thrashed by former President Trump in 2016 when running for the presidency, is questioning the indictment that a Manhattan grand jury issued against Trump on Thursday, calling for the decision to instead be made by “the voters.”
Bush is seen by many conservatives as a Republican in name only. Even so, he surprisingly tweeted on Sunday that the case against Trump is “very political” and not founded on justice but, instead, on politics.
The former governor brought up that other authorities dealing with the case had passed on it. Bragg has decided to make his leftist political bones over the issue and is going after Trump with a very, very weak case.
“Bragg’s predecessor didn’t take up the case. The Justice Department didn’t take up the case,” Bush noted. “Bragg first said he would not take up the case. This is very political, not a matter of justice. In this case, let the jury be the voters.”

Bragg’s predecessor was Cyrus Vance Jr. He served as the Manhattan district attorney for over a decade and began the investigation into the alleged payment by Trump to porn star Stormy Daniels.

Vance prevailed before the Supreme Court in 2020 and got access to Trump’s tax returns as part of his investigation. He decided to not run for reelection at the end of 2021 and handed off the case to Bragg without filing charges against Trump. The Justice Department never brought charges either.
Last year, Bragg allowed a grand jury that had been empaneled for six months to dissolve without filing charges against the former president. Two prosecutors in his office, Mark Pomerantz and Carey Dunne, resigned after that because they thought Bragg had dropped the case.
Recently, Bragg resurrected the case and empaneled another grand jury that would go on to indict Trump. It is rumored that the former president is facing 34 counts related to alleged business fraud in the indictment although the specifics of it are still sealed.

Trump has responded to the indictment by blasting Bragg for his “obsession” with trying to “get Trump,” while also warning that charging a former president of the United States will “backfire” on President Biden.
“This is Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history,” Trump said in a statement. “From the time I came down the golden escalator at Trump Tower, and even before I was sworn in as your President of the United States, the Radical Left Democrats – the enemy of the hard-working men and women of this Country – have been engaged in a Witch-Hunt to destroy the Make America Great Again movement.”
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy tweeted that Bragg had “weaponized our sacred system of justice against President Donald Trump.”
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise called the indictment a “sham.”
Alvin Bragg has irreparably damaged our country in an attempt to interfere in our Presidential election.
As he routinely frees violent criminals to terrorize the public, he weaponized our sacred system of justice against President Donald Trump.
The American people will not…

The sham New York indictment of President Donald Trump is one of the clearest examples of extremist Democrats weaponizing government to attack their political opponents.
Outrageous.

“ELECTION INTERFERENCE, KANGAROO COURT!” Trump posted on Truth Social, adding that Juan Manuel Marchal, the judge who will potentially preside over an eventual trial, “hates me.”
The former president will be booked, fingerprinted, and will have a mugshot reportedly taken at a Manhattan courthouse on Tuesday afternoon ahead of an appearance before a judge as the first-ever American president to face criminal charges. The left is drooling over the event but Trump will capitalize on it and many feel it could well get him reelected as president in 2024.
“The president will not be put in handcuffs,” Joe Tacopina, one of Trump’s attorneys, stated according to the Daily Mail, adding that he does not believe prosecutors will “allow this to become a circus.”
There is “zero” chance Trump would accept a plea deal, the attorney told NBC’s Today show. “It’s not going to happen. There’s no crime.”

Trump was initially “shocked” at the indictment, his attorney claimed, but “he’s now in the posture that he’s ready to fight this.”
