Mayor Adams branded as ‘Black Trump’ over ‘bigoted thinking’ that migrant crisis will destroy NYC

A writer for MSNBC’s The ReidOut Blog slammed New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Sunday, branding him “Black Trump” for claiming illegal immigration would destroy the Big Apple.

Adams gave a speech claiming, “This issue will destroy New York City. We’re getting 10,000 migrants a month. … people all over the globe have made their minds up that they’re going to come through the southern part of the border and come into New York City.”

Ja’han Jones called that “bigoted thinking” inspired by the right on The ReidOut Blog.

“But there’s a reason Adams’ rant is being applauded by conservatives… Maybe it’s because [conservatives] feel they’ve made him come around to their bigoted thinking,” Jones wrote on the “digital extension” of Joy Reid’s primetime MSNBC show.

Jones blasted Adams for “parroting right-wing talking points and espousing conservative politics” on immigration.

“That has led some of his critics to label him ‘Black Trump’ And he lived up to the moniker Thursday with an anti-immigrant diatribe that sounded as if it had been ripped from the former president’s social media feed,” Jones scathingly wrote.

Ironically, Adams is a Democrat who has called Texas Governor Greg Abbott a “madman” for busing illegal immigrants to his sanctuary city. It should be noted that the federal government also relocates illegal immigrants across the country, not to mention the fact that many make their way to New York City all on their own.

“What happened? It started with a madman down in Texas, decided he wanted to bus people up to New York City,” Adams said during his speech last week. “One hundred ten thousand migrants. We have to feed, clothe, house, educate the children, wash their laundry sheets, give them everything they need, healthcare. And this team here, we stated, let’s do everything possible before we have to push it out into neighborhoods and communities. Month after month, I stood up, and I said, ‘This is going to come to a neighborhood near you.’”

“Abbott has championed Operation Lone Star for filling the ‘dangerous gaps created by the Biden administration’s refusal to secure the border,’ arguing the busing initiative helps lessen the burden on border communities overwhelmed by the mass influx of border-crossings,” Fox News reported.

Last week, Abbott announced that Texas has bused more than 35,000 migrants to sanctuary cities across the nation. That includes over 13,300 to New York City since August 2022.

Adams has predicted that the crisis in New York City will only worsen, growing the deficit and forcing “every service” to be cut.

“It’s going to come to your neighborhoods,” he warned the Big Apple’s residents.

The NYPD is now facing overtime cuts despite escalating crime in the city. Those cuts are a direct result of the migrant crisis strangling the Big Apple. Budget cuts across the board will now take place after Adams warned that the issue could cost residents $12 billion.

Jacques Jiha, the city’s budget director, has broken the bad news to the police, firefighters, sanitation workers, and corrections officers concerning overtime.

“The mayor will … issue a directive to implement an overtime reduction initiative for our city’s four uniformed agencies (NYPD, FDNY, DOC/DSNY),” he wrote in a memo issued on Saturday.

As the migrant crisis grows, the city is cutting back everywhere to help pay for it. It may even cause migrant women and children to be forced into tents because of overcrowded facilities, and winter is coming.

“We’re going to have to eventually move women and children into congregant settings. Some migrants might have to move into outside tents,” Adams said during an interview on PIX11.

“This is not an academic exercise, this is not a utopia. New York City cannot manage 10,000 people a month with no end in sight. That can’t happen, and that is going to undermine this entire city,” the mayor railed.

No layoffs for the city are projected yet, according to the New York Post. A hiring freeze, however, will occur except for departments such as public health and safety.

“These agencies must submit a plan to reduce year-to-year OT spending,” Jiha announced, also asserting that the departments must send City Hall monthly reports to track their progress toward the city’s goal for overtime reduction.

“We are also reducing services being provided to asylum seekers and closely monitoring these services to ensure they are being delivered in the cost-efficient and cost-effective manner possible,” he added. “The city is experiencing a humanitarian crisis we did not cause.”

Patrick Hendry, who is the head of the city’s largest police union, the Police Benevolent Association, contended that this is no time to be cutting overtime for officers.

“It is going to be impossible for the NYPD to significantly reduce overtime unless it fixes its staffing crisis,” Hendry stated. “We are still thousands of cops short, and we’re struggling to drive crime back to pre-2020 levels without adequate personnel.”

Governor Abbott shredded Adams last week, calling him a “hypocrite” for his warning. He pointed out that the illegal immigrant population in the Big Apple is a fraction of what Texas is being forced to handle.

“Mayor Adams was proud to tout his self-described sanctuary city status until Texas began busing migrants to New York City to provide relief to our overrun and overwhelmed border communities,” Abbott’s press secretary Andrew Mahaleris noted in a statement released to Fox News Digital.

“With millions of residents, New York is only dealing with a fraction of what our small border communities deal with on a day-to-day basis,” Mahaleris claimed.

“Instead of complaining about 13,000 migrants sent from Texas, Mayor Adams should be calling out his party leader, President Biden, who has been flying planeloads of migrants all around the country and oftentimes in the cover of night, straining state and local resources across the country,” he continued.

“Until President Biden steps up and does his job, Texas will continue busing migrants to sanctuary cities to provide relief to our overwhelmed border towns,” Mahaleris vowed.
