Mexico erects piece of Berlin Wall near US border to send bold message

The left-wing government of Mexico has erected some remains of the Berlin Wall along the U.S. border to make a point.

“As the U.S. government built its latest stretch of border wall, Mexico made a statement of its own by laying remains of the Berlin Wall a few steps away. The 3-ton pockmarked, gray concrete slab sits between a bullring, a lighthouse and the border wall, which extends into the Pacific Ocean,” the Associated Press confirmed Sunday.

What exactly is the point Mexico is trying to make? One need only look to the inscription on the relic to understand: “May this be a lesson to build a society that knocks down walls and builds bridges.

The inscription was written by Tijuana Mayor Montserrat Caballero.

“Why [was it installed] in Tijuana? How many families have shed blood, labor and their lives to get past the wall? The social and political conflict is different than the Berlin Wall, but it’s a wall at the end of the day. And a wall is always a sphinx that divides and bloodies nations,” Caballero reportedly said in a statement.

“We are against violence, we are against family separation, we are against division, and that’s what the wall represents,” she added.

The message is pretty clear: Caballero and her supporters want U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration to stop expanding the border wall structures that were erected during former President Donald Trump’s administration and roll back any and all immigration enforcement efforts.

It’s a point that critics find to be quite strange given as, aside for expanding some of the wall, the Biden administration has done virtually nothing to stem the tide of illegals flooding into the U.S. If anything, the president has exacerbated the dilemma by reversing all of his predecessor’s policies.

In fact, according to Fox News, “Biden signed an executive order on his first day in office, ending the construction of new border wall.” And the only reason some parts of the wall are being expanded now are because they “had already been contracted out when he took office.”

Meanwhile, aside for this small bit of border security, the border has remained nearly fully open since Biden took office, thanks to him eliminating Title 42 and even trying (but failing) to eliminate the Remain in Mexico policy. The border is open  enough that at least eight million illegals have crossed into the U.S. since he assumed office.

“The number of illegal border crossings at the northern and southern borders and all ports of entry since January 2021 totals more than eight million people, greater than the individual populations of 38 U.S. states,” The Center Square, a project of the Franklin News Foundation, reported in June.

“Put another way, the number of foreign nationals from all over the world believed to be primarily illegally entering the U.S. is comparable to the populations of eight Delawares, four New Mexicos, two Oklahomas or more than 13 Wyomings,” the outlet added.

Critics also think Caballero’s point makes no sense because the Berlin Wall was designed to prevent residents of the Soviet-controlled East Berlin from fleeing to West Berlin. Conversely, the border wall is designed to keep people OUT.

Indeed, below is some of the pushback Caballero has been receiving on Twitter:
