Mexico’s president bashes DeSantis over Florida anti-illegal immigration bill, E-Verify, labels it ‘immoral’

Autocratic Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) lashed out at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Monday, the day before he was set to have a phone meeting with President Biden, laughably accusing the conservative’s anti-illegal immigration bill of being “immoral.”

DeSantis is pushing the state legislature to adopt migration reforms that would throttle the influx of illegal immigrant workers into blue-collar jobs that can be done by Americans. Obrador doesn’t like that legislation one little bit because it cuts down on the flow of money out of Florida back to Mexico via illegal immigrant workers.

“Now I found out that the Florida governor — imagine, Florida, which is full of migrants! — is taking repressive, inhumane measures against migrants in Florida because he wants to be a [presidential] candidate,” railed Obrador who left out the pertinent point that it isn’t migrants that DeSantis is targeting… it is illegal immigrants.

“Why does [DeSantis] have to take advantage of people’s pain, of migrants’ pain, of people’s need for political gain? … This is immoral — this is politicking,” the Mexican president raged.

“The legislation lawmakers passed last week would require medium-sized and large employers to use the federal E-Verify system to check the status of new employees and mandates hospitals to ask patients about their legal status,” Politico reported.

“The bill, SB 1718, will also allow authorities to charge someone with human trafficking if they knowingly transport an undocumented migrant across state lines. It would also prohibit an undocumented immigrant from driving a car even if they have a driver’s license from another state,” the media outlet added.

Obrador bragged about his upcoming call with Biden and praised the president.

“We will continue talking about the cooperation we have, which is very, very good and which we will keep it that way,” he asserted.

The two leaders will ostensibly discuss ways to stabilize illegal immigration. They will not discuss how to stop or reduce it according to Breitbart.

The E-Verify rule is opposed by many business organizations because it would ostensibly keep them from hiring cheap illegal immigrants to work for them. Illegal immigrants and those who sympathize with them walked off a construction site in Florida on May 7 in protest.

Biden told a January 10 press conference with Obrador and Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, “Look, all of you know all of us in the United States are immigrants. Mine go all the way back to the Irish famine.”

“At the top of our shared agenda today is keeping North America the most competitive, prosperous, and resilient economic region of the world … [and creating] pathways for immigrants from Nicaragua, Cuba, and Haiti that were seeking a better life here in the United States of America,” Biden continued.

AMLO also asked Biden to give amnesty to Mexican illegal migrants.

“I fully trust President Biden … I’ve asked President Biden to insist before the US Congress to regularize the migration situations of millions of Mexicans who have been in the States working, living in the United States, and contributing to the development of that great nation, which is the United States of America,” Obrador stated.

“Just imagine: There are 40 million Mexicans in the United States — 40 million [including people] who were born here in Mexico, [or] who are the children of people who were born in Mexico,” he noted.

The Mexican president celebrated economic growth for Mexicans as well during the press conference.

“The [Mexican government] budget is used for development and supporting the poorest sectors of our [Mexican] population. Today, we not only have jobs, employment, we have seen reductions in violence. We have less [em]migration as well … what we can see is this flame — this flame which is alive. I’m talking about the flame of hope,” he commented.

Obrador went on to bash Texas Gov. Greg Abbott who is pushing Mexico to curb migration.

Obrador has previously lashed out at Republicans for busing illegal immigrants to other states.

“Then, in an inhumane, vulgar, and vile way, they started to take migrants while it was cold to New York, to Washington, to the vice president’s house. The Republicans did this … something that degrades them from a moral, human point of view,” Politico reported.

Leaders of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) condemned Florida’s illegal immigrant proposals in April, claiming in a statement that the new moves were part of “Florida Republicans’ anti-immigrant agenda,” according to The Hill.

“The recent policies implemented by the Republican-led Florida Legislature demonstrate Governor DeSantis’ preference for fearmongering, promoting racial profiling, and damaging Florida’s economy, rather than supporting the state’s Hispanic population in their time of need,” the statement accused.
