Mike Pence joins forces with Heritage Foundation with official place at the table

Former Vice President Mike Pence will be joining the Heritage Foundation as speculation still swirls as to whether he is preparing to launch his own presidential bid in 2024.

Pence will join the conservative flagship think tank as a distinguished visiting fellow, according to a press release from the organization.

“Over the course of the past four years, our team at Heritage has worked closely with members of the Trump administration on a host of policy accomplishments,” said Heritage President Kay C. James.

“That’s why I am excited Vice President Mike Pence will join forces with Heritage to ensure we continue to advance conservative principles and policy solutions. His allegiance to the Constitution and commitment to advancing a conservative policy agenda make him an outstanding fit for The Heritage Foundation,” James added.

It was the organization’s influence that led Pence to found a similar organization in his home state of Indiana some 30 years ago, Heritage said. He frequently collaborated with the organization after he was elected to Congress and later, as he became former President Donald Trump’s second-in-command.

“The Heritage Foundation has been a flagship of the conservative movement and helped shape my conservative philosophy for decades,” said Pence in a statement. “There are few organizations in America that have had a greater impact on public policy than the Heritage Foundation and I am profoundly honored to join Heritage as a distinguished visiting fellow to advance the cause of a strong national defense, free-market economics, and traditional values all across America.”

He added: “Heritage played a pivotal role in advancing sound conservative policies throughout the Trump administration and I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and working with the all-star team at Heritage to advance conservative solutions that will benefit all Americans.”

As a distinguished fellow, Pence will be advising experts at Heritage on a range of public policy issues to “ensure” the organization “remains the leading conservative voice on solutions to America’s biggest challenges,” the press release notes.

Plans are for Pence to give a series of policy speeches while at Heritage as well as contribute to a monthly column for the organization’s media site, The Daily Signal. And he will help craft the organization’s conservative messaging and policy approach moving forward.

“Mike Pence served with honor and excellence in his home state of Indiana as a congressman and as governor before becoming one of the most consequential vice presidents of our time,” James added. “A man of faith, principle, and character, Vice President Pence is a heroic protector and defender of the Constitution and the values that unite us as a nation.

“I am overjoyed that Heritage will continue to work alongside Vice President Pence as we have for the last 30 years. As much as we’ve accomplished in that time, especially over the last four years, there is so much more to be done. Knowing that Vice President Pence is still in the fight is an adrenaline shot for the entire conservative movement,” James continued.

Heritage worked closely with Pence and other members of the Trump administration to score several policy victories that benefited Americans, the organization said.

They included confirming conservative Supreme Court justices and federal court judges; lowering taxes; making the country energy-independent for the first time in decades; spearheading several historic peace deals in the Middle East and Eastern Europe; curbing regulations; rebuilding the U.S. military; and enforcing border security and immigration laws.

Trump also withdrew from costly, dangerous globalist agreements and eliminated terrorist threats while drawing down American forces in Afghanistan and not engaging in any major new “regime change” conflicts.
