A fourth-grader’s mother was shocked to receive a blunt reply from a Republican congresswoman following an assignment.
When 10-year-old Christian Mango of Greensboro, North Carolina, was told to write a persuasive essay and send it to a person in power, he could never have expected that person to respond in such a frank manner. He penned a passionate plea to Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-North Carolina, to provide electric vehicle buyers with rebates, a topic that his mother, Emily Mango, says he chose all on his own.
Foxx, however, was not moved by his essay and fired off a response explaining why she is not in favor of EV rebates.
“What many folks do not realize is that the money that ‘comes from’ the federal government actually comes from ordinary citizens who pay taxes to support that government. Therefore, your request that ‘the federal government should give a $5,000 tax rebate for all new electric car purchases’ means that the federal government must take that money out of the pockets of hardworking people who may not have the means to buy an electric vehicle in the first place,” she wrote, according to WRAL.
Then she took on the child’s teacher:
Please ask your teacher to explain propaganda to you. My guess is that your teachers will not give you a good educational experience and help you learn to think, as they are too interested in indoctrinating you.
The child’s mother described the letter as “horrific.”
“Reprehensible response. You crossed a line when you attacked a child and attacked teachers. You don’t deserve to be on a Committee for Education when you talk to children like this and think so lowly of teachers,” she responded in a Facebook post.
X users reacted:
Could have been worded better, but she’s right to call out the fleecing of taxpayers to subsidize higher income car buyers

I really like congresswoman Virginia Foxx, but this doesn’t look good on the surface. I would be interested in hearing her reasoning, before passing any judgment.

This is madness! Why would an 80 year old woman much less an elected official say this foolishness to a child!?
