Just as an unelected “politburo” of Joe Biden’s aides is being blamed for covering up the disgraced former president’s senility, fingers are also being pointed at the “Obama people” as being culpable for the Democratic Party’s current failings.
As the leaderless party desperately tries to recapture its lost mojo before the next election cycle, one MSNBC host is suggesting that those who came up in politics with the nation’s first black president have been obstacles to the “next generation” of Democrats who are badly needed to resurrect the party’s electoral fortunes.
During an appearance on Tuesday’s edition of “Morning Joe” on the troubled left-wing cable network, the Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart told co-host Jonathan Lemire that Obama loyalists can “come across like they think they know everything” and suggested that it’s time to turn the page.

“I think that’s why one of the primary reasons why I think President Obama has been scarce, is that he — everyone’s looking for him to save the day, and what they keep saying is, ‘No, no, no, no, it’s not about us. It’s about you,’ and it seems like the party can’t seem to come to grips with that and deal with that,” he explained.
Capehart likened the “Obama people” to staffers loyal to Bill and Hillary Clinton who were running the party when Obama burst onto the political scene back in 2008.
“One of the things folks have to remember is that the Obama team were the first Democrats to be in power who weren’t Clintons,” he said. “And so remember, folks used to complain after the Clinton years, ‘Oh my God, the Clinton folks are running all these things and can’t we get new blood?’ The Obama people come in, they’re the new blood, and now people are starting to complain, ‘Oh my God, the Obama people, they’re running everything.’”
“Some of the criticism, I think, is valid,” Capehart continued. “There is — sometimes you get a sense that they think they know everything, they run the world, and in some when, in some cases you can understand it because, well, they did win two presidential elections.”
“But at a certain point, that class of folks has to start listening to the next generation coming up because they have ideas, they have ways of reaching out to the voters, to men, to the Obama coalition that they just don’t have, they don’t have the feel for it because they’re not from that generation,” he concluded.
Capehart didn’t single out any of the “Obama people” by name, but NBC News did in a report on how “Team Obama’s bloom may be falling off the rose” that was cited by the “Morning Joe” crew.
Former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe, who has been credited as being the “architect” of the inexperienced Illinois senator’s 2008 presidential victory, found out that the same magic didn’t work with Kamala Harris after he signed on to her doomed campaign that also cratered his own reputation.
“The shine’s off Plouffe now. He was the golden boy,” Democrat megadonor John Morgan is quoted by the outlet. “Now he’s just an old broken-down boy who lost. Big.”
The former “golden boy” pointed his own finger at Biden, who many Democrats have scapegoated for the Kamala catastrophe.
“And it’s all Biden…He totally f**ked us,” Plouffe said, according to Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s new book “Original Sin,” which hit bookshelves last week.
“It’s time to re-evaluate the use of consultants and bring in new forward-looking people,” DNC Finance Chair Chris Korge told NBC News in a recent interview. “The old Obama playbook no longer works.”
