An update on a scheduled ABC News debate had former President Donald Trump affirming a rules agreement while landing jabs against his current and former rivals.
“…seemed to work out well for everyone except, perhaps, Crooked Joe Biden.”
The unprecedented will-they-won’t-they for the 2024 presidential election has seen both the Trump campaign and that of the empty suit du jour for the Democratic Party vying for the high ground through the negotiating process.
Tuesday, the man behind “The Art of the Deal” asserted that the matchup with “Comrade Kamala” was on for the “nastiest and most unfair” network without veering from the previous rules.
“I have reached an agreement with the Radical Left Democrats for a Debate with Comrade Kamala Harris. It will be Broadcast Live on ABC FAKE NEWS, by far the nastiest and most unfair newscaster in the business, on Tuesday, September 10th, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The Rules will be the same as the last CNN Debate, which seemed to work out well for everyone except, perhaps, Crooked Joe Biden.”
Expected to be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis, the debate with Vice President Kamala Harris remained in doubt as her campaign reportedly sought to have open mics, opening statements, and even notes, while attempting to slight the GOP leader for opposing a change to the agreement.
“Our understanding is that Trump’s handlers prefer the muted microphone because they don’t think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own,” a statement from Harris campaign Senior Adviser Brian Fallon projected ahead of the vice president’s first campaign interview — pre-taped and teamed up with her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
The president specified in his Truth Social post with a callback to a 2016 edge given to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, “The Debate will be ‘stand up,’ and Candidates cannot bring notes, or ‘cheat sheets.’ We have also been given assurance by ABC that this will be a ‘fair and equitable’ Debate, and that neither side will be given the questions in advance (No Donna Brazile!).”
“Harris would not agree to the FoxNews Debate on September 4th, but that date will be held open in case she changes her mind or, Flip Fops, as she has done on every single one of her long held and cherished policy beliefs,” added Trump as he signaled his willingness for multiple bouts with the vice president. “A possible third Debate, which would got to NBC FAKE News, has not been agreed to by the Radical Left. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
The Democratic Party was not without a slight of its own as a Harris campaign official tried yet again to suggest that it was the GOP leader and not their own nominee who was little more than a puppet in a statement to Politico, “Both candidates have publicly made clear their willingness to debate with unmuted mics for the duration of the debate to fully allow for substantive exchanges between the candidates — but it appears Donald Trump is letting his handlers overrule him. Sad.”
