NBC slammed for asinine take that Blacks can now enjoy certain sports just like white folks

NBC News is re-circulating an article from February that has people checking their calendars to make sure it’s still 2025.

The title of the piece, “Scuba, skydiving and golf: Black adults embrace sports that defy stereotypes and bring joy,” explores how people of color are getting into “activities that were once inaccessible because of systemic racism or were not culturally traditional pursuits in Black communities.”

“These forays have become emblematic of the ways Black people celebrate the freedom and flexibility they have, and how they are using it to escape the rigors of life — personally, socially and politically,” the report reads.

The article dives into Tonya Parker’s love of golf, and how the pandemic introduced her to the sport despite her having no previous interest.

“I never thought that a Black woman like me, 63 years old, would ever find something that I just absolutely love at this point of my life,” the woman explained.. “It’s opened up a whole new world for me.”

Likewise, Baudelaire Fleurant developed an adoration for skydiving despite his fear.

“I was working so much I didn’t have a social life,” he said. He learned about “fun diving,” where a person free-jumps out of a plane by himself and parachutes down to Earth.

“I thought: ‘That’s different,’” he recalled. “It’s really unique for Black people, really outside the circle.”

X users were baffled by such stories being treated as if they were shocking breaks from the norm for minorities:
