New Chargers coach offers up position to Kaepernick, but will he take it?

Activist Colin Kaepernick has long contended he would like to return to the NFL after his kneeling controversy, but his desire to play football may clash with the offer extended to him.

New Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh told USA TODAY Sports that he would be willing to have Kaepernick on his coaching staff.

“If that was ever the path he was to take, I think that would be tremendous,” he said. “He’d be a tremendous coach if that’s the path he chose.”

The coach revealed that he discussed the possibility of returning to the game in a non-playing capacity back in January, but the former San Francisco 49ers player turned civil rights activist has yet to make any decision.

“Yeah, we talked a little bit about it. He’s considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me. We haven’t reconnected since then. That was early, early in the year.”

It’s possible that Kaepernick is holding out because he’s still looking for a player position, but given that it has been seven years since he has been on the field, it appears unlikely that such an offer will be made.
