New DNC vice chair David Hogg accused of using party to solicit money for own PAC

Ignorance of youth, or an intentional ploy to shore up his own coffers? The Democrat National Committee’s new vice-chair is already in some hot water.

According to the New York Post, David Hogg is soliciting donations for his own political action committee using DNC contacts lists. Hogg draws on the PAC’s funds to pay himself to the tune of about $100,000 per year, according to Federal Election Commission records.

A text reportedly sent out to a list of phone numbers gathered by the DNC celebrated his vice chairmanship included links to the “Leaders We Deserve” PAC where interested parties can make donations. The PAC was established in 2023 and since then, has provided around $175k in compensation to the young progressive, quite a haul for someone freshly out of college.

“David Hogg here: I was just elected DNC Vice Chair! This is a huge win for our movement to make the Democratic Party more reflective of our base: youthful, energetic, and ready to win,” the message read.

Not all Democrats are pleased with what they perceive as Hogg’s greed.

“David Hogg — talk about living up to your name. A trough of DNC dollars all for him and he doesn’t seem to give an oink,” one complained to the Post.

Hogg’s behavior is not explicitly against the rules, but some top Dems don’t like the optics of his latest moves.

“It’s especially important for all Democratic national officials to focus on raising support for the party and not using their position to raise money for themselves or their personal political PACS,” a senior Democratic Party official whined, opting to remain anonymous. “It’s a stunning lack of judgment that is concerning to many people.”

“I mean it’s just very frustrating to be in a party in desperate need of increased accountability for our struggling leadership, and watch someone who is never held accountable ascend to leadership,” said Stoneman Douglas shooting survivor Cameron Kasky.
