New interim Speaker’s first BOSS move on Pelosi is brilliant: ‘Well, that wasn’t so hard’

Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) wasted no time after Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was ousted as speaker, epically ordering former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to vacate her office.

Immediately after taking the gavel, McHenry told Pelosi to get out of her office in the Capitol House building by Wednesday, a move that many conservatives applauded and celebrated. The move elevated the North Carolina Republican to almost hero status and was seen as a strong start for the conservative. It also could be a bid to keep the speakership.

McHenry (The Hammer) may have to fight for it as there are a number of Republicans lining up to make a bid for the position. McCarthy has stated that he will not make another run for speaker.

“Please vacate the space tomorrow, the room will be re-keyed,” an email sent to Pelosi’s office read, according to Politico. The email added the stinging rebuke that the room will be used “for speaker office use.”

The email was sent about an hour and a half after McHenry became the acting Speaker of the House, Axios reported.

Actor James Woods added on X, “And fumigated.”

Pelosi is currently in San Francisco at the funeral of Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and may have trouble getting her things out of her office in time. She may return to find she can’t get into it.

“With all of the important decisions that the new Republican Leadership must address, which we are all eagerly awaiting, one of the first actions taken by the new Speaker Pro Tempore was to order me to immediately vacate my office in the Capitol. Sadly, because I am in California to mourn the loss of and pay tribute to my dear friend Dianne Feinstein, I am unable to retrieve my belongings at this time,” an obviously fuming and humiliated Pelosi remarked.

“Office space doesn’t matter to me, but it seems to be important to them,” she said according to CNN. “Now that the new Republican Leadership has settled this important matter, let’s hope they get to work on what’s truly important for the American people.”

McCarthy had allowed Pelosi to stay in her office as speaker emerita. McHenry, despite being an ally to McCarthy, felt no such compunction.

The radical Democrat leader seemed incensed over the perceived insult of her “hideaway office” being taken away from her and called it “a sharp departure from tradition.” She added that she had given former Speaker Dennis Hastert “a significantly larger suite of offices for as long as he wished” during her tenure.

Hideaway offices are private, unlisted offices in the Capitol, which only the most senior members of the House are afforded. Traditionally, the rooms are reserved for senators and are a statement of status and power.

“House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ staff helped Pelosi’s office make the move, according to a spokesperson for the former speaker,” Politico reported.

Conservatives have long detested Pelosi and they were jubilant on X at her getting the boot:
