Newsom uses impressive mental gymnastics to criticize DeSantis for migrant flights: ‘There’s a different spirit’

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) corporate media-ready talking points against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) were no match for the barest scrutiny as a reality check on President Joe Biden left him grasping for a contrast.

“….there’s a different spirit.”

Much speculation remains about the Golden State governor’s White House aspirations; particularly whether he’ll step up to bat this cycle or hold out for 2028. Amidst the rumors, Newsom joined Fox News host Sean Hannity for an interview slated to premiere Monday wherein the politician was forced to confront Biden’s handling of the border crisis compared to DeSantis’ actions.

“It’s a stunt. It’s embarrassing; pathetic,” Newsom railed about illegal aliens getting bused and flown to progressive strongholds in a clip teased by Fox News.

“Out of the goodness of his heart, he just wanted to help people?” the California executive asked rhetorically of his Florida counterpart. “Give me a break, Sean.”

While he laughed at his own remark, Hannity managed to knock the grin off his face by pointing out that the Biden administration had been conducting similar activities under the radar. Angrily pointing a finger, Newsom growled over semantics, “Coordinating them. Coordinating them. I’m engaged directly with the administration on coordination.

“Not perfect, but they’re coordinating — there’s a different spirit. There’s a different level of engagement. It’s as different in daylight and darkness,” the governor continued his mental gymnastics. “It’s not perfect. There’s some humility in this.”

“Well, isn’t Joe Biden dumping people in Florida?” Hannity followed up, earning more ire from Newsom who chided, “He’s not ‘dumping people.’ He doesn’t dump people anywhere.”

The host then sought clarity on the difference between the White House’s actions and those of America’s Governor to which Newsom insisted, “Everything. Pretense. Manipulation. False representation.”

Previously, the California politician had leveled that DeSantis’ actions needed to be investigated as possible “state-sanctioned kidnapping” after 16 aliens were willingly flown to Sacramento. “My Administration is also working with the California Department of Justice to investigate the circumstances around who paid for the group’s travel and whether the individuals orchestrating this trip misled anyone with false promises or have violated any criminal laws, including kidnapping.”

In response, DeSantis noted how progressives like Newsom were to blame for the crisis to begin with, noting, “These sanctuary jurisdictions are part of the reason we have this problem because they have endorsed and agitated for these types of open border policies. They have bragged that they are sanctuary jurisdictions. They attack the previous administration’s efforts to try to have border security. And so that’s the policies they have taken out.”

In another preview for the interview, Newsom refused to name names when asked by Hannity, “How many times does your phone ping a day, people saying, ‘You need to get in this race,’ that they agree with me that [Biden’s] not up to the job?”

Balking at the implications, only adding to suspicions about a potential bid for the 2024 Democratic nomination, the governor responded, “Uh…I see where you’re going with that, Sean,” before asserting, “No, and I’m not answering.”

Hannity went on to state that Newsom was willing to have the Fox News host act as something of a moderator for a multi-hour televised discussion between DeSantis and himself if the Florida leader would agree to it.
