Newsom uses inaugural speech to blast GOP: They ‘kidnap migrants’ and ‘demonize Mickey Mouse’

Governor Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) kicked off his second term by drawing battle lines against Republicans while contrasting himself with the GOP in an apparent effort to prop up his image as a presidential candidate for 2024.

On Thursday at Newsom’s inauguration, the differences between the uber-leftist and Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) were stark. Newsom didn’t use names, but it was clear he was taking aim at his arch-nemesis in the Sunshine State. The event was staged on the second anniversary of the January 6 Capitol riot for added progressive effect.

The California Democrat let loose by accusing Republicans of promoting “victimhood,” kidnapping illegal immigrants, and attacking Mickey Mouse.

“They’re promoting grievance and victimhood, in an attempt to erase so much of the progress you and I have witnessed in our lifetime,” Newsom declared. “They make it harder to vote and easier to buy illegal guns. They silence speech, fire teachers, kidnap migrants, subjugate women, attack the Special Olympics, and even demonize Mickey Mouse.”

“Red states selling regression as progress,” he disingenuously intoned.

And of course, January 6th was his pivot point during the speech. The event was meant to demonize Republicans and paint California as the nation’s moral authority. It failed to do that primarily because everyone can see what is going on in the state.

“The ugliness that overflowed on January 6th, 2021, we know this, was in fact decades in the making — fomented by people who have a very different vision of America’s future,” Newsom said during the speech.

“On January 6, two years ago, we saw dark forces in America that wanted to take the nation backward. That day was decades in the making. The GOP and the media empire behind them have been selling regression as progress and oppression as freedom. We will not stand for it,” Newsom tweeted while idolizing himself in a video.

He laughably called California a “freedom force multiplier.” With some of the highest taxation in the nation, skyrocketing energy and gas prices, ongoing water supply struggles, a homeless crisis, out-of-control inflation, rising crime, illegal immigration that is about to break the state, and a long list of other death-knell issues facing California, it appears to be anything but free. That is why so many are fleeing the state.

“California has been freedom’s force multiplier, protecting liberty from a rising tide of oppression taking root in statehouses — weakness, masquerading as strength,” he said according to KCRA, painting a different version of reality than what Californians are suffering under.

“The battle lines, they’re drawn. I’ll say it: Once again, it is time for choosing,” Newsom declared in his inauguration speech setting the tone for the 2024 presidential race.

“Now that California is facing a massive budget shortfall, these crises will only get worse unless the governor changes course and focuses on the issues facing our state,” Assemblyman James Gallagher, the chamber’s Republican leader, forcefully said in a statement. “Texas and Florida are doing just fine on their own, and welcoming more Californians escaping our problems each day,”
