NFL Panthers owner appears to throw a drink at opposing fans near end of game

The National Football League is “aware” but not offering further comment on a video that appears to show the owner of the Carolina Panthers throwing a drink at fans of an opposing team.

Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was seen at EverBank Stadium on a video caught during Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars when he seemed to throw a drink from his open-air suite. On the other side of the toss were reportedly Jaguars fans and one in particular who may have been heckling the billionaire hedge fund manager.

“The incident appeared to happen with about three minutes to play after an interception by quarterback Bryce Young, who was so frustrated after a sack early in the game that he threw a tablet on the sideline,” ESPN reported as the Panthers were shut out by the Jaguars, 26-0.

A visibly frustrated Tepper was seen in the video tossing his drink and dropping the glass before storming out of the frame.

On the other side, it appeared that one Jaguars fan stepped up to yell something back toward the box where Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer was.

“A Panthers spokesperson declined to comment. NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said the league is ‘aware of the video’ and has ‘no further comment at this time,'” ESPN reported.

According to Fox News:

Tepper, a billionaire hedge fund manager who also owns Charlotte FC in the MLS, bought the Panthers from Jerry Richardson in May 2018 for, at the time, the highest price in NFL history at $2.2 billion. Tepper was forced to sell his shares in the Pittsburgh Steelers to take over control of Carolina.

Since Tepper has taken over, the Panthers have not had the best of seasons, going a combined 31-67 since he took over in 2018.
