President Donald Trump ripped into the Senate as a “roadblock” following this week’s major Republican losses in the midterm elections.
Speaking to reporters on a Florida tarmac on Friday, the president answered questions about his agenda in the wake of Democrats winning back the majority in both chambers of Congress, singling out the Senate for “killing our country.”
“Mr. President, you got a couple of months before the new Congress takes their seats. What are your priorities?” a reporter off camera asked in a video posted online. “What would you like to get done? What do you think you need to get done before they step in?”
.@POTUS: “The Senate HAS to act. The Senate is getting nothing passed and it’s just killing our country. That means Democrats AND Republicans… You send things to the Senate when you want it to die.” https://t.co/U6YLrRTu5J

“The Senate has to act. The Senate is getting nothing passed, and it’s just killing our country,” Trump responded.
“And that means Democrats and Republicans, they’re just not getting anything done,” he continued, focused on the upper chamber, which returns from yet another recess on November 9.
“So the Democrats vote in a block. We could have the best bill in the world for our country. They vote in a block, and we always have a few Republicans that obstruct,” Trump said.
“And hopefully [Senate Majority Leader] John Thune can finally get them to act,” he continued.
“I mean, the Senate has to act. The biggest problem we have, it’s a roadblock…you send things to the Senate when you want it to die. So they have to get together. [Senate Minority Leader Charles] Schumer and John Thune, or whoever is going to be representing the Democrats. And they’re going to have to get things done,” Trump said.
“The Senate, the Senate is killing our country. I mean, nothing is getting through,” he emphasized.
The GOP majority sat on its hands, failing to deliver on many of Trump’s priorities, including the SAVE Act, a common-sense voter identification bill.
Social media users reacted to Trump’s remarks, many in agreement as they raked Thune and Republicans over the coals.
John Thune is an enemy within. He squandered 2 years of Pres. Trumps agenda, the agenda of We The People, by being obstructionist in a way that we can now only assume was deliberate. Thune is a 🐍

Ridiculous that Trump didn’t put more pressure on the Senate a year ago on this issue.

@LeaderJohnThune and @SenateGOP suck. They sat on their ass for two years and deliberately betrayed their voters.

He’s not wrong. The Senate could stall a fire truck.
