NYC Mayor Adams cries the poor mouth but hired nearly 300 ‘special assistants’

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has taken fire over imposing deep budget cuts to essential services which he says are necessary to deal with Gotham’s illegal alien crisis but Hizzoner is being criticized over his own spendthrift ways.

The heat under the embattled Democrat’s seat is only going to get hotter after it was reported that Adams hired nearly 300 “special assistants” during his first year in office, costing taxpayers $24.3 million according to payroll records, according to the New York Post.

In its bombshell report, the outlet states that the “bloated band of vaguely titled aides” who were accountable only to the mayor, “comprised roughly one-third ” of Adams’ office for the period ending June 30.

“Eighty-five pocketed six-figure earnings in fiscal 2023 – including 13 who took in more than $200,000,” according to the New York Post which noted that it was more than a 20 percent increase over his predecessor, former NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, the flamboyant cop-hating socialist who nearly singlehandedly destroyed the city before voters turned it over to the hapless Adams.

The report goes on to list a number of the Adams hires and their salaries.

“It sends a horrible message – especially with the NYPD, Fire Department and other city agencies facing heavy cuts,” said Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa who lost to Adams in the mayoral race. “He’s got to show he’s cutting his own fat — all these special assistants, advisors that he created jobs for that never existed. It’s time to clean house.”

“For every special assistant, there’s at least two less cops on the street,” said Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), adding, “Whether it’s offering illegal immigrants free housing while cutting services from citizens or hiring more assistants at City Hall while cutting public safety officers, Mayor Adams is showing his priorities are backwards.”

X users shared their reactions to Adams’ hiring spree at a time when the city’s burgeoning migrant population is costing taxpayers millions.

In other Adams-related news, the mayor was just slapped with a lawsuit by the city’s teacher’s union over his budget cuts.

“The administration can’t go around touting the tourism recovery and the return of the city’s pre-pandemic jobs, and then create a fiscal crisis and cut education because of its own mismanagement of the asylum seeker problem. Our schools and our families deserve better,” United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew said in a statement posted to the union’s website announcing the lawsuit.

“This is going to become difficult and ugly,” Mulgrew said at a Thursday news conference. “We have never had an administration try to cut their schools when they have historic reserves and their revenues are all up.”
