Oakland liquor store worker sends attacking mob scurrying when he pulls handgun

Oakland’s lawlessness rapidly escalated in a wild video when a violent mob’s assault on a liquor store employee led him to pull a firearm.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ old district attorney stomping grounds in Alameda County have grown so out of control that even California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has recognized a diminished and handcuffed police force was exacerbating the problem. Saturday, as Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao (D) fought back against recall efforts, a local man said to be an employee of a liquor store was seen in a fight for his own survival against a bike-riding mob.

“I’m not shoplifting, that’s a kid shoplifting, and you handled that,” one member of the group asserted to the unidentified employee of the Golden Hours Liquor store according to the Daily Mail. “But you’re threatening three motherf*ckers.”

“I’m not threatening nobody, I said back the f*ck off me,” the man allegedly responded.

In the viral video, while the employee was surrounded by the mob and talked to one member, another came from off-camera intending to land a strike to the side of his head. Moments later, another figure came up behind the employee and soon he was surrounded as blows rained down on him and he was pushed back toward the entrance of the store.

It was then that he was seen brandishing a firearm as members of the mob rapidly scurried off, grabbing their bikes and riding away.

An official from the Oakland Police Department confirmed to the Mail that they had responded to the scene as part of an investigation of a “ShotSpotter activation” and they further detailed that they “located evidence of a shooting,” though no gunshot wounds were reported.

Similarly, no arrests were made.

Saturday’s violence included shouts of “Get him! Get him!” and came less than three weeks after a mother of eight was shot and killed when she confronted a trio for allegedly selling drugs to a couple of her kids.

The same day the San Francisco Chronicle detailed that two individuals had been detained when around 100 bicyclists took over the lower level of the Bay Bridge. While a 15-year-old had been cited and released, the outlet noted that a 46-year-old man was booked into San Francisco County Jail.

Meanwhile, as the Oakland Police Officer’s Association called for Thao to resign, she continued to downplay the threat posed to the public from criminals contending that “Violent crime in Oakland is declining.”

To support her claim, the mayor argued, “When we focus on collaborative, data-driven policies like Operation Ceasefire, we can and will positively impact the health and safety of our city,” as she also acknowledged, “there’s still important public safety work to be done…”

While the strategy was said to focus on those most likely to commit gun violence, social media users reacting to the scene couldn’t help but notice how the employee’s exercise of his Second Amendment rights was ultimately what saved him from suffering continued injury or worse.
