Paul Ryan vows to skip RNC if Trump is nominee, says GOP will ‘lose’ in 2024 with former president

Former Speaker Paul Ryan won’t be attending the Republican National Convention (RNC) if Donald Trump is the GOP’s nominee for president.

“I’ll be here if it’s somebody not named ‘Trump,'” he told FOX6’s Jason Calvi on Thursday while in Milwaukee to promote the new book he edited, “American Renewal.”

“You won’t show up if it’s Trump?” Calvi pressed.

“Yeah, I’m not interested in participating in that,” Ryan replied.

“Even in Wisconsin?” Calvi asked.

“Even in Wisconsin,” Ryan confirmed.

Long-dubbed a RINO (Republican In Name Only), conservatives on Twitter were quick to mock the former politician.

“Oh no!” exclaimed one user. “Whatever will we do if Paul Ryan won’t attend?”

“Seriously why do these weirdos keep threatening to deny people their presence if they don’t get their way?” the user asked. “Do they really think anyone cares about them at all?”

But, according to Ryan, if Trump is the nominee, Republicans will lose the White House in 2024.

“The first GOP presidential debate’s going to be in Milwaukee this year,” Calvi told Ryan. On that stage could be former President Trump and others. Who do you back in 2024?”

“That would be the person not named Donald Trump,” Ryan shot back, “so I don’t really have a dog in the fight.”

“Other than that,” he continued, “if we nominate Trump again, we’re going to lose. It’s just that clear.”

“We lost with him in ‘18, ’20, and ’22. We know this,” Ryan reasoned. “He will cost us another election, so I’m just excited about somebody not named Trump.”

You would think that Ryan would have realized by now that “Orange Man Bad” isn’t actually a reliable hook to hang your hat on.

Just ask Liz Cheney.

Ryan doesn’t appear to care who the GOP nominates or what those nominees stand for. If their initials aren’t “DJT,” they’ve got his support.

“There are great people running. I know them all. They’re all pretty decent friends of mine, and so I think any one of these candidates that are thinking about getting in the race — if they get in the race — would be a great candidate,” he told Calvi. “I think we’re going to beat Joe Biden if we don’t run Donald Trump.”

Again, Republicans on Twitter have different thoughts, and few of them are flattering for Ryan.

“Paul Ryan has a lot of animosity towards Trump and wants to do whatever possible to keep the swamp (big government)intact,” one user stated. “He’s also a globalist so more war and funding NATO and the UN.”

Another called him “a huge disappointment,” adding, “he fooled me once..NEVER AGAIN..he is and a Never Trumper..A RINO. He’s in the Uni-Party..a Self-serving single-visioned Politician.”

And a third called the former Speaker a RINO “warmonger.”

“[T]hey don’t want Trump to run as they know he will win and they do not want peace,” the user stated. “These warmongers want to keep war going to enrich themselves.”
