Perino rings warning bell over ‘staggering’ election turnout in Wisconsin: ‘The left has really woken up’

On “The Five” Wednesday, co-host Dana Perino appeared alarmed and warned Republicans of impending doom following Chicago electing a new mayor to the left of former Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Wisconsin progressives electing two radical leftists on Tuesday night.

Chicago, which is rampant with crime and ostensibly ditched Lightfoot because of it, elected someone even worse by picking Brandon Johnson over the more conservative Democrat Paul Vallas in the mayoral runoff election. Conservatives pointed to Lightfoot’s defeat as an indication that the city’s denizens were fed up with crime and progressive policies. They were evidently wrong as the Windy City took a huge suicidal lurch to the left.

In the state next door, Wisconsin, leftist Janet Protasiewicz solidly defeated Dan Kelly to flip the state Supreme Court and put it under progressives’ control for the first time in 15 years.

That development shocked Perino who told Republicans to take note of it. Her words thrilled Democrats.

“This guy, the new mayor – most of the ads that he did against Paul Vallas were about abortion because 10 years or so ago Paul Vallas said something mildly supportive of a pro-life position,” she recounted. “So they tagged him as a pro-life, crazy nut and there was no response on it.”

That’s when she brought up Wisconsin which evidently has her very nervous.

“Now, go next door to Wisconsin,” she said. “Republicans lose by 10 points. Now, they won a lot of conservative ballot issues, issues that are on the ballot. But the candidate on the Republican Supreme Court [ticket], he lost by 10 points.”

Kelly refused to concede, calling the election corrupt and dishonorable.

Perino believes that Democrats are successfully drawing in younger voters who are turning out at the polls to vote.

“Republicans used to be able to count on their voters turning out in the midterms,” she noted. “The left has really woken up to making sure that Gen-Z gets out to vote. If you look at the vote and where it came from, especially in Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, it was staggering. The numbers are staggering and that is going to happen all across the country.”

Many disagree with that assessment and it should be pointed out she’s looking at two blue states which don’t reflect the majority of the country.

Perino should also look a bit deeper into Wisconsin’s politics.

Protasiewicz’s victory tips the judicial balance of power in a state that is heavily gerrymandered to favor Republicans. That could change now that it would be a liberal majority deciding any districting-related cases before the court,” Mediaite reported.

“Democrats’ enthusiasm was somewhat curbed on Tuesday night, as Republican Rep. Dan Knodl defeated Jodi Habush Sinykin in a state Senate special election for the eighth district. Knodl’s win gives Republicans a two-thirds majority that, were it so inclined, could vote to remove Protasiewicz (or any other Democratic justice) from the court if the Republican-controlled state assembly impeaches her with a simple majority vote,” the outlet continued.

“Though the move would be radical, Knodl, who urged then-Vice President Mike Pence to delay certifying Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election, said he’s open to the idea of convicting Protasiewicz,” Mediaite continued.

“I certainly would consider it,” Knodl asserted on a local television talk show.
