AOC rejoins DSA as socialist diva mulls 2028 White House bid

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has renewed her membership in the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) after letting it lapse for seven years.

AOC re-upped with the DSA after reports that she was no longer an active member after having initially joined back in 2018, the year that she arrived on the scene when the former bartender shockingly upset entrenched Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY) in the Democrat primary, launching the real life Cinderella story that has inflicted much pain and suffering on America for eight years.

“Democratic Socialists of America confirms Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a member in good standing of our organization, having recently rejoined in August 2026,” DSA said in a Tuesday statement to members which it shared with City & State New York.

“Previously, the representative joined DSA in 2018 with a one-year membership, which DSA’s national leadership recently noticed had lapsed, in 2019. She has since renewed her membership as of this month,” the organization added.

The radical leftist group has been flexing its muscles in a string of anti-establishment primary wins this summer that have claimed a number of high-profile incumbents, including Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY), a celebrated hero of the Resistance.

Goldman, an obscenely rich heir to the Levi Strauss family fortune, was among those who fell victim to candidates backed by “kingmaker” New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani in June, rocking the political establishment.

DSA-backed lawyer Melat Kiros also toppled 15-term incumbent Rep. Diana DeGette in Colorado, and most recently, firebrand Florida State Rep. Angie Nixon trounced former national security official and Trump impeachment “witness” Alexander Vindman in the Florida Senate primary.

Buzz has been building that the New York City diva will enter what is expected to be a crowded Democrat field vying for a shot at the White House in 2028, although the loquacious lawmaker has remained coy about the possibility.

During a recent appearance on ABC News’ “This Week” after Ocasio-Cortez publicly announced that she’s freezing her eggs, she was asked by host Jonathan Karl about the chatter that she’s running.

“I haven’t ruled out the possibility,” AOC told Karl, adding, “And I’m very humbled to the tremendous amount of support out there. I think that we have a responsibility to remain focused on the midterms and not on our individual aspirations or plans.”

The rumor mill has been spinning that Ocasio-Cortez could also be eying the seat of embattled Democrat Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in the next Senate primary.

“While it is atypical for DSA to address the membership status of individuals, ongoing discussions about the 2028 presidential campaign have prompted this release. … With chapters and members campaigning to draft Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a potential Presidential Primary candidate, we believe that the status of her membership is essential information for members to have in their deliberations and discussions,” the DSA said in its statement on AOC.
