Defense of free speech fell short of avoiding biases as a commentary regarding teammates’ sentiments about President Donald Trump missed confronting a “contradiction.”
Friday in New York, an innocuous introduction of the chief executive at a rally by New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart became a point of contention for his teammate, Abdul Carter. Rather than address the bias among those who voice no qualms when leftist officials and positions are supported by athletes, former NFL player turned commentator Emmanuel Acho drew his own criticism for accusing Dart of lacking “wisdom or discernment.”
Saturday afternoon on X, the retired linebacker known for his “uncomfortable conversations” pushed the need to have one about Dart’s introduction of the president the day before, “It’s time to have an uncomfortable conversation about what the hell is going on in New York. Jaxson Dart, the quarterback, supporting President Donald Trump!?”
“He’s allowed to do that. He’s a citizen. He’s allowed to have a freedom of thought,” continued Acho who then presented the other side. “Abdul Carter, his teammate, calling him out!? He’s allowed to do that. If Jaxson Dart is allowed to support Donald Trump, then his teammate is allowed to support his grievances with him doing that.”

“Here is my issue. Jaxson Dart, you know how several of your brothers, your teammates, your friends, your ride or dies, how they might feel about this individual. So, I don’t think there’s a lot of wisdom or discernment in very publicly supporting an individual who many of your teammates feel offended by,” suggested the sports commentator. “So yes, Jaxson Dart, you’re allowed to do whatever the hell you want, but I don’t know that it’s a super wise decision without necessarily consulting in some of your teammates.”
Acho echoed that sentiment with regard to Carter’s X post that captioned video of Dart introducing the president, “thought this sh!t was AI, what we doing man,” after suggesting it was “pretty stupid” for Dart to publicly align with Trump.

Writing for OutKick, Ian Miller addressed the apparent “contradiction” and noted, “Many have pointed out that many athletes or coaches have come out in favor of Democratic Party candidates or issues with zero condemnation or accusations of ‘dividing’ the locker room,” naming figures like LeBron James and Steph Curry as Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Thomas Booker IV “quite literally led the ‘Athletes for Harris’ group trying to get Harris elected. Surprisingly, that received little attention.”
“Does Acho care if LeBron or Booker divide the locker room? No, of course not, because supporting Kamala Harris is not seen as divisive among those on the left,” added Miller.
His position was hardly unique, especially among those fatigued with celebrities detracting from whatever line of entertainment they work in to spout off about issues, often based solely on their feelings, devoid of facts.
Didn’t Steph Curry and LeBron openly show their support for Kamala Harris? I dont remember Acho saying it was uncomfortable? If you’re going to be stupid, at least be consistent. That’s all.

We all work with people who have politics/opinions that differ from ours. We all have to put that aside and do our jobs. As you point out, these are grown men. They have to do the same thing. The question is: Would you have made this same post if Dart supported a democrat?

Why is it that these dumbasses can support the biggest losers ever but when someone strong and intelligent supports the other side the world is coming to an end. If you have to bully people who think differently than you you’re wrong!

You’re not gonna believe this but It’s possible to have different political opinions and coexist with each other. Like normal, respectful, well adjusted Americans.

So it’s not ok for a Republican to support their party because their Democratic teammates are divided, but it’s ok for his Democratic teammates to support their party but not consult the republican teammates. Got it. Man talk about double standard. Stick to sports and please…
