Popular taco chain threatened with boycott over CEO’s alleged Trump support

A popular California-based taco chain found itself on the menu of left-wing activists after its CEO was outed by a social media user as an alleged supporter of President Donald J. Trump.

The target of the “woke” mob’s economic bullying is Roberto’s Taco Shop, which, since being founded by San Diegans Roberto and Dolores Robledo in 1964, has expanded to over 80 locations in California, Nevada, and Texas, where customers have flocked to enjoy the chain’s “fast traditional Mexican food.”

Roberto’s Taco Shop’s current CEO is Reynaldo Robledo, the son of the founders, and he stands accused of being a Trump backer by a TikTok user who boasts that she exposes “Latino MAGA businesses that profit off La Raza,” a charge that she backed up with alleged posts from Robledo’s Facebook account supportive of the president.

“Did this CEO forget that all of his restaurants are based on Mexican dishes, who wouldn’t have made it here without the immigrants that are currently being affected by the current administration that you are supporting?” Asks the TikTok user who goes by the handle @harrie385 in the April 8 video.

“Are we going to allow these people to hide, say, and lie to our face that they stand by us and then behind closed doors, they’re somebody else?” she added.

A Facebook group calling itself A Strong Nevada shared a post from a user calling for a boycott: “Did you know that Reynaldo Robledo, the CEO of Roberto’s Taco Shop is a huge MAGA supporter and supports ICE! Looks like you won’t be getting our business anymore!”

The Facebook account alleged to belong to Robledo now appears to have been made private.

Roberto’s Taco Shop was once featured by Food Network host Guy Fieri, who sang the praises of the carne asada burrito.

One Las Vegas location was spooked so much by the boycott threat that it distanced itself from Robledo.

“Roberto’s Taco Shop is proud to be a Latino-owned and operated franchise that serves diverse communities across Nevada. While our CEO may hold personal political beliefs, it is important to note that each of our 49 franchisees operates their stores independently,” the eatery said in a statement posted to Instagram.

“The day-to-day operations and livelihoods of our 600 team members reflect the hard work, values, and cultural heritage of families, many of whom are Latino immigrants, who are dedicated to serving their local communities,” the statement said.

“Roberto’s began as a family-operated business in 1964 and continues to be family-run, with over 80 Roberto’s taco shops today,” Roberto’s website states. “Roberto’s remains the pioneer in fast, traditional Mexican food with taco shops in California, Nevada, and Texas.”

For those who believe that cancel culture is on the way out, this is proof that it hasn’t gone anywhere, served up with a side of salsa.
